Whole-House Surge Protector Installation in Charlotte, NC
On October 17, 2025, Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, operating from our Matthews branch, installed a whole-house surge protector at the main electrical panel for Duke Energy - Allumia in Charlotte, NC. Lead technician Christian Cedillos completed this upgrade as part of our Panels & Service Upgrades service, with a focus on Whole-House Surge Protection to safeguard the home’s electrical system, appliances, and sensitive electronics.
Why Surge Protection Matters
Power surges occur more often than most people realize and can originate from outside and inside the home. Even small, repeated spikes degrade internal components over time, shortening the lifespan of electronics and hard-wired equipment.
- Lightning activity and severe weather
- Utility grid fluctuations and switching events
- Large appliances and HVAC systems cycling on and off
A properly installed whole-house surge protective device (SPD) provides a first line of defense for the entire electrical system by diverting excess voltage safely to ground before it can reach your circuits and equipment.
What We Installed and How It Protects
We mounted a whole-house SPD at the main electrical panel to intercept damaging voltage spikes at the source. By shunting excess energy to ground, this device helps protect branch circuits, connected outlets, and hard-wired equipment throughout the home.
- Whole-home defense from panel level
- Helps extend the lifespan of appliances and electronics
- Added protection against surges from storms and utility events
This installation is backed by a $10,000, 3-year warranty against covered home appliances in the unlikely event of protector failure. All claims are secondary to your existing insurance policy and direct lightning strikes are excluded.
Covered Equipment includes, when protected with a properly connected Boltshield SPD:
- Washer and dryer
- Refrigerator and freezer
- HVAC unit located inside the house
- Trash compactor, dishwasher, garbage disposal
- Stove/range
- Wiring, outlets/switches, electrical system components (breakers, etc.)
- Hard-wired appliances/devices such as built-in microwaves, furnace, air handlers, evaporator coils, hardwired ranges, landscape lighting, and home lighting
Exclusions: Security systems and medical equipment are not included and are specifically excluded from Covered Equipment.
