On June 21, 2024, our Charlotte team out of the Matthews branch completed a whole-house surge protector installation for homeowner Joshua Carroll in Davidson, NC. Led by technician Ben Lively, this project combined surge protection with key service upgrades to support a new major appliance, improve grounding, and ensure the home’s electrical system meets current safety standards. All work was permitted and inspected.
Scope of work completed
- Installed a whole-house surge protector at the main electrical panel to divert excess voltage safely to ground.
- Added a new 60A breaker dedicated to a major appliance for reliable power and proper circuit protection.
- Ran approximately 20 feet of 4/3 NM-B cable to feed the appliance location with the correct conductor size and configuration.
- Wired a customer-supplied appliance with the appropriate receptacle or hard-wired connection per code.
- Upgraded the grounding system with a new ground rod and a continuous grounding electrode conductor back to the main panel.
- Filed the electrical permit and coordinated the required inspection with the local authority.
