Whole-House Surge Protection Installed in Raleigh
Touchstone Electric recently completed a whole-house surge protection installation for Carolyn Manley in Raleigh. Performed by technician Brad Williams, this electrical panel upgrade helps protect the home’s wiring, breakers, connected appliances, and hardwired equipment from damaging voltage spikes.
Power surges can occur for many reasons, including power grid fluctuations, electrical equipment cycling on and off, and nearby lightning activity. While many homeowners use plug-in power strips for individual electronics, a whole-home surge protector adds an important layer of protection at the main electrical panel, where excess voltage can be diverted safely to ground before it travels through the home’s electrical system.
Protection at the Main Electrical Panel
The installed whole-house surge protection system is designed to help reduce the risk of damage caused by electrical surges. By installing the surge protective device at the main panel, the system helps safeguard electrical components throughout the home rather than protecting only a few devices connected to a power strip.
Routine exposure to smaller surges can also contribute to wear on the internal components of appliances and electronics over time. Whole-home surge protection can help support the longevity of equipment that relies on the home’s electrical system, including major appliances and permanently connected devices.
- Helps protect against voltage spikes and electrical surges
- Installed at the home’s main electrical panel
- Helps protect wiring, outlets, switches, breakers, and electrical system components
- Provides protection for many hardwired appliances and home systems when properly connected

$50,000 10-Year Warranty Coverage
This Raleigh installation included a whole-home surge protector with a $50,000, 10-year warranty for covered equipment in the unlikely event of surge protector failure. Covered equipment includes items such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, garbage disposals, stoves, indoor HVAC equipment, electrical wiring, outlets, switches, breakers, and other electrical system components.
Hardwired appliances and devices, including built-in microwaves, furnaces, air handlers, evaporator coils, hardwired ranges, landscape lighting, and home lighting may also be covered when protected with a properly connected Boltshield SPD. Warranty claims are secondary to the homeowner’s existing insurance policy. Direct lightning strikes are excluded, along with security systems and medical equipment.
The completed work also included Touchstone Electric’s Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty.
Professional Surge Protection for Raleigh Homes
Whole-house surge protection is a practical addition for homeowners who want to help protect the electrical systems and appliances they depend on every day. Because this equipment is installed inside or alongside the main electrical panel, professional installation helps ensure the device is properly connected to provide effective system-wide protection.
Whether your Raleigh home has experienced utility-related surges, you are updating an electrical panel, or you simply want another level of protection for valuable appliances and hardwired equipment, Touchstone Electric can evaluate your electrical system and recommend an appropriate solution.
