Whole-House Surge Protection Installed in Fountain Inn, SC
Touchstone Electric recently completed a whole-home surge protector installation for homeowner Tim Schoth in Fountain Inn. Performed by technician Tyler Harris on July 17, 2026, this project helps safeguard the home’s electrical system, appliances, and sensitive electronics from damaging voltage spikes.
This service falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades and Whole-House Surge Protection specialties, delivered by our Greenville team based out of our Taylors branch.
What We Installed
We installed a premium whole-home surge protective device (SPD) at the main electrical panel. This SPD diverts excess voltage safely to ground before it can travel through the home’s wiring. It helps protect against:
- Lightning-related surges
- Utility grid fluctuations
- Large appliances cycling on and off
The result is added resilience for the home’s electrical infrastructure and extended lifespan for connected appliances and electronics.
$50,000 / 10-Year Protection
The installed surge protector is backed by a $50,000 coverage benefit and a 10-year term for covered equipment in the unlikely event of device failure. Coverage is secondary to the homeowner’s existing insurance and excludes direct lightning strikes.
Covered equipment includes, when protected with a properly connected Boltshield SPD:
- Washer and dryer
- Refrigerator and freezer
- HVAC unit located inside the home
- Trash compactor, dishwasher, and garbage disposal
- Stove
- Wiring, outlets/switches, and electrical system components (including breakers)
- Hard-wired devices and appliances, such as built-in microwaves, furnace, air handlers, evaporator coils, hardwired ranges, landscape lighting, and home lighting
Note: Security systems and medical equipment are not included and are specifically excluded from coverage.
How Our Fountain Inn Installation Was Completed
- Evaluated the main service panel and grounding system for proper bonding and capacity.
- Installed the whole-house SPD at the main panel to minimize lead length for faster response.
- Secured, labeled, and neatly routed conductors to maintain clear serviceability.
- Tested operation and verified correct panel voltage and grounding performance.
- Reviewed surge protection best practices with the homeowner and provided documentation.
Our approach emphasizes safety, code compliance, and clean workmanship to ensure reliable, long-term protection for Fountain Inn homes.
Why Surge Protection Matters in Fountain Inn
Even brief voltage spikes can degrade sensitive internal components, leading to nuisance failures or premature replacement of appliances and electronics. A properly installed whole-home SPD forms a first line of defense, helping shield your panel, branch circuits, and connected equipment from everyday surges as well as severe events.
