Project overview
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a whole-house surge protection installation for Duke Energy - Allumia in Charlotte, NC. Led by technician Christian Cedillos from our Matthews branch, this project focused on safeguarding the property’s electrical system and connected equipment from damaging voltage spikes. Completed on November 12, 2025, the work falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades and Whole-House Surge Protection services.
What we installed
We installed a whole-house surge protector at the main electrical panel. This device continuously monitors incoming power and, when a surge occurs, diverts excess voltage safely to ground before it can travel through the home’s circuits and reach sensitive equipment.
- Main panel placement: Designed for system-wide protection at the service entrance.
- Surge diversion: Directs transient overvoltage to ground to help prevent equipment damage.
- Everyday protection: Helps mitigate surges caused by lightning, utility fluctuations, and equipment cycling.
- Longevity benefits: Reduces cumulative stress that can degrade internal components of appliances and electronics.
Why whole-house surge protection matters in Charlotte
Power grid fluctuations and storms in the Charlotte area can trigger sudden spikes that travel through your electrical system in milliseconds. A professionally installed surge protector adds a critical first line of defense, complementing point-of-use strips and protecting hardwired devices that plug-in protectors can’t reach. It’s an affordable upgrade that helps protect your investment in appliances, HVAC equipment, and home electronics.
Warranty details and covered equipment
The installed surge protector includes a $50,000, 10-year warranty for your home appliances in the unlikely case of device failure. All claims are secondary to your existing insurance policy. Warranty excludes direct lightning strikes.
“Covered Equipment” includes, when protected with a properly connected Boltshield SPD:
- Washer and dryer
- Refrigerator and freezer
- HVAC unit located inside the house
- Trash compactor, dishwasher, garbage disposal, and stove
- Wiring, outlets/switches, and electrical system components (including breakers)
- Hardwired appliances/devices such as built-in microwaves, furnace, air handlers, evaporator coils, hardwired ranges
- Landscape lighting and home lighting
Not covered: Security systems and medical equipment are excluded from Covered Equipment.
