Whole-House Surge Protection for a Fort Mill, SC Home

Touchstone Electric completed a whole-house surge protection installation for a homeowner in Fort Mill, SC. The project was handled by our Matthews branch team in the Charlotte service area and completed on September 17, 2025 by technician Viktor Opalko. This upgrade is part of our Panels & Service Upgrades services, with a focus on dependable Whole-House Surge Protection.

Why Surge Protection Matters

Power surges can originate from lightning activity, utility grid fluctuations, or large appliances cycling on and off. Even small, routine surges degrade sensitive electronics and appliance components over time. A professionally installed whole-house surge protector defends your entire electrical system by shunting excess voltage safely to ground before it can damage wiring, breakers, outlets, and connected equipment.

For Fort Mill homeowners, this protection adds peace of mind during storm season and extends the lifespan of valuable appliances, HVAC systems, and electronics.

What We Installed

  • Main panel integration: The surge protective device (SPD) was mounted and wired at the home’s primary electrical panel for whole-home coverage.
  • Effective diversion to ground: Excess voltage from surges is routed to ground, keeping elevated currents away from the home’s branch circuits and devices.
  • Protection from multiple surge sources: Helps shield against lightning-induced surges, utility grid irregularities, and internal surges from motors and compressors starting and stopping.
  • Longevity benefits: Reducing repetitive surge exposure helps prolong the life of appliances, electronics, and electrical components.

All work was completed to current electrical code and tested for proper operation before we wrapped up the project.

Warranty Coverage Details

The installed surge protector includes a 10-year warranty with up to $50,000 coverage for “Covered Equipment” in the unlikely event of protector failure. Claims are secondary to the homeowner’s existing insurance policy, and direct lightning strikes are excluded.

Covered Equipment includes, when protected by a properly connected Boltshield SPD:

  • Washer and dryer
  • Refrigerator and freezer
  • HVAC equipment located inside the home, including furnace, air handlers, and evaporator coils
  • Dishwasher, stove, built-in microwave, garbage disposal, and trash compactor
  • Hardwired appliances/devices such as hardwired ranges and home/landscape lighting
  • Wiring, outlets/switches, breakers, and related electrical system components

Not covered: Security systems and medical equipment are specifically excluded.
