Project overview in Concord, NC
Our Charlotte branch completed a panels and service upgrade for homeowner Kevin Anway in Concord, NC on July 9, 2024. Led by technician Danny Bishop, the job combined a whole-house surge protection install at the main electrical panel with a clean, code-compliant addition of a standard receptacle. This service aligns with our focus areas in Panels & Service Upgrades and Whole-House Surge Protection, delivering safer power distribution and better protection for sensitive electronics.
Scope of work completed
- Whole-house surge protector installed at the main electrical panel to divert excess voltage safely to ground and protect connected circuits and devices from spikes.
- Standard receptacle installed with a professional-grade cover for a clean finish.
- Cut-in box added for the new receptacle, with a precise opening and secure mounting.
- Wiring with approximately 20 feet of 12/2 NM-B (Romex) to tie the receptacle into an existing circuit, including any necessary junction box.
- Structural pass-through completed by carefully drilling through the footer to route cable while preserving structural integrity.
- Final testing for correct polarity, grounding, and GFCI/AFCI interactions where applicable.
Note: This project tied into an existing circuit and did not include a new breaker, conduit, or additional device installations beyond the listed scope.
Why whole-house surge protection matters
Voltage spikes can originate from lightning, utility grid fluctuations, or large appliances cycling on and off. A panel-mounted surge protector acts like a safety cushion for your home’s electrical system, routing sudden excess voltage to ground before it can reach your circuits. The result is a lower risk of damage to TVs, computers, HVAC controls, refrigerators, and other electronics—and reduced long-term wear from routine micro-surges.
The device installed for this project includes a $10,000 warranty on home appliances in the unlikely event of failure and is designed for multi-year protection. Proper placement at the main panel and short, direct wiring help maximize performance.
About the new outlet installation
For the added receptacle, we used 12/2 NM-B wiring, the standard for 20-amp residential branch circuits. Our team cut in a new box to provide a secure mounting point, routed cable through the footer where needed, and tied the run into an existing circuit. The receptacle was finished with a matching cover and tested to ensure safe operation.
- Neat, flush-mounted cut-in box for a professional appearance
- Secure cable support and proper terminations
- Full function check and verification of grounding and polarity
Code-compliant workmanship from our Charlotte team
Touchstone Electric follows current electrical codes and manufacturer specifications for all panel-based devices and receptacle wiring. On this Concord project, Danny Bishop ensured correct conductor sizing, bonding and grounding practices, and panel-space considerations so the surge protector can perform as intended.
