Project overview in Aberdeen, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh branch completed a comprehensive electrical upgrade for homeowner Caroline Miller in Aberdeen, NC on April 23, 2024. Led by technician Patrick Burke, this project combined a whole-home surge protector, new lighting, and added power access to improve safety, reliability, and curb appeal.
This service visit falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades category with a focus on Whole-House Surge Protection, complemented by lighting and outlet installations to modernize everyday living.
What we installed
- Whole-home surge protector: Installed at the main electrical panel to help divert dangerous voltage spikes away from the home’s circuits and sensitive electronics.
- 10 outlets added: Seven exterior outlets and three interior outlets to expand convenient, safe access to power for tools, holiday decor, and household electronics.
- 4 LED can lights: Low-profile LED wafer trims brightened the game room with efficient, even illumination and a clean, modern look.
- 2 landscape lights: Targeted outdoor lighting increased evening visibility and enhanced curb appeal along key pathways and features.
Materials and workmanship
For long-lasting performance outdoors, we installed approximately 50 feet of #12 landscape wire (20-amp, 150V) and buried it to a minimum depth of six inches. Indoors, about 85 feet of NM-B 14/2 wiring was used to serve lighting and general-purpose outlets, with appropriate junction boxes included where needed.
All devices and fixtures were installed with attention to proper mounting, secure terminations, and weather-appropriate components outdoors. Our Raleigh team follows manufacturer specifications and applicable local code requirements to ensure a safe, neat, and reliable finish throughout the home.
Why whole-home surge protection matters
Power surges can originate from lightning activity, utility grid fluctuations, or large appliances cycling on and off. A whole-home surge protector acts like an airbag for your electrical system—intercepting excess voltage at the main panel and sending it safely to ground before it can damage wiring, appliances, or electronics. This protection can help extend the lifespan of everyday devices, reduce nuisance failures, and provide peace of mind during storm season in Aberdeen.
Results for the homeowner
The home now benefits from modern, energy-efficient lighting in the game room, added outdoor visibility after dark, and more convenient access to power inside and out. Most importantly, the newly installed surge protection adds a critical layer of defense for the home’s electrical infrastructure and valuable equipment.
Taken together, these improvements boost safety, usability, and curb appeal—delivering a noticeable upgrade to daily living while preparing the home for future electrical needs.
