Whole-Home Surge Protection Installed in Apex, NC
Touchstone Electric recently completed a whole-home surge protection installation for Kristine Sugano in Apex, NC. Performed by Raleigh technician Cody Perry, this service added surge protection at the home’s main electrical panel to help reduce the risk of damaging voltage spikes reaching connected electrical equipment.
Whole-home surge protection is a practical upgrade for homeowners who want an added layer of defense for the electrical systems and hardwired equipment they rely on every day. Rather than protecting only individual devices with plug-in power strips, a panel-mounted surge protector is designed to divert excess voltage safely to ground before it can travel through the home’s wiring.
Protection for Everyday Electrical Surges
Electrical surges can come from more than major storms. Power grid fluctuations, nearby lightning activity, and large equipment cycling on and off may all create voltage spikes. Over time, repeated smaller surges can contribute to wear on the internal components of appliances, electronics, and other connected equipment.
For this Apex home, Touchstone Electric installed a whole-home surge protector at the main electrical panel. This location allows the device to provide broad protection for the home’s electrical system and eligible hardwired equipment. It is an especially valuable consideration for homes with modern appliances, HVAC equipment, built-in devices, lighting systems, and other electrical investments.
What the Whole-Home Surge Protection System Helps Protect
When properly connected, the installed surge protection system is designed to help protect eligible covered equipment from certain surge-related damage. Covered equipment includes many commonly used home systems and appliances, such as:
- Washers, dryers, refrigerators, and freezers
- Dishwashers, garbage disposals, stoves, and trash compactors
- Hardwired HVAC components located inside the home
- Furnaces, air handlers, evaporator coils, and hardwired ranges
- Built-in microwaves and other hardwired appliances
- Home lighting, landscape lighting, wiring, outlets, switches, and electrical system components
This installation also includes a $100,000, 10-year equipment warranty for eligible covered equipment in the unlikely event of surge protector failure. Claims are secondary to the homeowner’s existing insurance policy. Direct lightning strikes are excluded, and security systems and medical equipment are not included as covered equipment.
