Why Charlotte Homes Choose Whole-House Surge Protection
Power surges can originate from lightning activity, grid fluctuations, and even everyday cycling of large appliances. These brief spikes in voltage can quickly degrade sensitive electronics and hard-wired equipment, shortening their lifespan and causing costly failures.
A whole-home surge protector at the main electrical panel is the first line of defense. It diverts excess voltage safely to ground before it reaches your home’s wiring and devices, helping protect what matters most and supporting the longevity of your electrical system.
What We Installed at the Main Panel
We installed a premium whole-house surge protector at the main electrical panel in Charlotte. This device is designed to:
- Clamp and divert dangerous voltage spikes to the grounding system
- Shield your panel, branch circuits, and connected equipment from surges caused by lightning events, utility issues, or large motor loads cycling on and off
- Help extend the service life of appliances and electronics by reducing routine surge exposure
The installed surge protector includes a $10,000, 3-year warranty against covered home appliances in the unlikely event of protector failure.
Warranty and Coverage Summary
Please note the following key points provided with the device:
- Claims are secondary to your existing homeowner’s insurance policy.
- Direct lightning strikes are excluded from coverage.
- “Covered Equipment” includes, when protected by a properly connected Boltshield SPD: washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer, HVAC unit located inside the house, trash compactor, dishwasher, garbage disposal, stove, home wiring, outlets/switches, electrical system components (including breakers), as well as hard-wired appliances/devices such as built-in microwaves, furnace, air handlers, evaporator coils, hardwired ranges, landscape lighting, and home lighting.
- Security systems and medical equipment are not included and are specifically excluded.
This coverage helps safeguard common household appliances and systems that are most vulnerable to surge-related damage.
How We Completed the Installation
- Evaluation and safety check: Verified main panel condition, capacity, and grounding/bonding integrity.
- Device placement: Mounted the surge protective device at the main electrical panel for whole-home protection.
- Optimal wiring: Kept leads short and properly routed to maximize clamping performance.
- Labeling and documentation: Labeled the SPD at the panel and documented device details for the homeowner’s records.
- Testing: Performed function checks to confirm the device is operating as intended.
By installing the SPD at the service entrance, surges are diverted before they travel through branch circuits, providing broad protection across the home.
