Comprehensive Electrical Upgrades in Greenville, SC
Touchstone Electric completed a whole-home protection and power upgrade for homeowner Pam Townsell in Greenville, SC. Led by technician Tyler Harris from our Greenville team, this project was finished on May 20, 2024 and included surge protection, grounding improvements, a new dedicated 20A kitchen circuit with GFCI protection, and an extension to a ceiling fan circuit.
Pam praised our work with a review after the project was completed, highlighting the care and professionalism our Taylors branch brings to every home visit.
Scope of Work Completed
- Whole-home surge protection: Installed at the main electrical service to help guard appliances, electronics, and smart devices from utility and lightning-related surge events.
- Grounding system: Drove new ground rods (typically about 8 ft) and connected a grounding electrode conductor using appropriate clamps, then ran the grounding conductor to the main electrical service panel. The grounding electrode conductor run was kept within a 25 ft maximum, per the project scope.
- Dedicated 20A kitchen circuit with GFCI: Added a 120V small-appliance circuit on its own run (up to 25 ft) and installed a GFCI-protected receptacle, including a standard single-pole breaker to properly supply the new circuit.
- Ceiling fan circuit extension: Extended the existing fan/lighting circuit to serve the homeowner’s preferred fan location and ensure reliable operation.
Why These Upgrades Matter for Your Home
Surge protection helps shield the entire home from damaging voltage spikes that can originate from storms or grid disturbances, reducing the risk of premature failure in sensitive equipment. By placing protection at the service, surges are addressed where they enter the home’s electrical system.
Robust grounding provides a low-impedance path for fault currents and stabilizes the electrical system. Properly installed ground rods and secure bonding improve safety and help protective devices perform as intended.
Dedicated 20A kitchen circuits are designed for power-hungry countertop appliances, helping minimize nuisance tripping and preventing overloads that can occur when multiple devices share the same branch circuit. GFCI protection adds an essential layer of shock protection in the kitchen.
Well-planned circuit extensions for fixtures like ceiling fans maintain consistent power delivery and convenience while supporting reliable operation and clean finishes.
