Our Greenville team from the Taylors branch completed a comprehensive electrical upgrade for homeowner Kathryn Freedman in Greenville, SC. Led by technician Aaron Smith, this project delivered robust whole-home surge protection with $50k coverage, a grounding system upgrade with a new ground rod and continuous grounding electrode conductor (GEC), added circuits for everyday and larger loads, and a weather-resistant covered outlet. Scope of Work Completed

• Whole-Home Surge Protector (at main panel): Installed a surge protective device designed to divert excess voltage safely to ground, helping shield the home’s electrical system and connected appliances from damaging spikes caused by storms, utility fluctuations, or equipment cycling. The unit includes $50,000 coverage over 10 years for covered equipment when properly connected. Claims are secondary to existing insurance; direct lightning strikes are excluded; security systems and medical equipment are excluded.
• Grounding Upgrade: Drove a new ground rod (typical ~8 ft) and replaced the grounding electrode conductor with a continuous #6 bare copper run to the main service panel for improved fault clearing and system bonding.
• New Circuits and Wiring: Pulled approximately 40 ft of 14/2 NM-B for 15A general-purpose circuits and 55 ft of 10/3 NM-B for 30A, 240V loads. Added 25 ft of #10 THHN conductors as needed for 30A runs and installed a new 20A breaker to support small-appliance/branch circuit needs.
• Conduit and Trenching: Installed about 20 ft of 3/4" PVC conduit with fittings and LBs where required. Performed approximately 17 ft of trenching at a depth of about 12 inches to route protected wiring. Utility locates are required before any digging.
• Exterior Outlet Protection: Installed a bubble cover on an outdoor receptacle for in-use weatherproof protection, plus one new standard receptacle indoors.
• Ventilation Lighting: Installed two exhaust fan/can light fixtures to improve lighting and airflow in targeted areas.
• Major Appliance Connection: Professionally connected a customer-supplied major appliance (such as a dryer, stove, water heater, HVAC equipment, spa, or EV charger) during the visit.
• Wire Fishing: Fished approximately 20 ft of wire through finished spaces to minimize drywall disturbance.
• Permitting: Filed the electrical permit with the county for code-compliant installation and inspection. Note: Non-electrical permits (e.g., historic, zoning, environmental) are not included.
