Project overview in Gastonia, NC
Touchstone Electric completed a whole-home rewiring and electrical panel upgrade for MUSE Residential in Gastonia, NC. Led by technician Danny Bishop from our Charlotte branch in Matthews, this project modernized 588 sq ft of living space, brought kitchen outlets up to current code, added six low-profile wafer recessed lights, and relocated the main electrical panel to meet code requirements. Completed on October 20, 2025, the work was permitted and inspected to ensure safety and compliance.
Scope of work
- Whole-home rewiring (588 sq ft): We safely disconnected power, removed outdated wiring at the panel, fished new wiring through finished walls, reconnected devices/outlets/switches, restored power, and performed testing and inspection. Permits and inspections were included.
- Kitchen outlets brought to code: Outlets were updated and organized in accordance with current electrical code in Gastonia to support modern kitchen usage. We coordinated appliance information to ensure circuits align with manufacturer requirements.
- Six recessed wafer can lights: Installed six slim, energy-efficient wafer fixtures designed for narrow or obstructed ceiling spaces. The plan did not include undercabinet lighting.
- Panel upgrade and relocation: The existing electrical panel was upgraded and moved to a compliant location to pass code, improve accessibility, and provide capacity for present and future electrical needs.
- Specialty items coordination: Specialty items noted on the construction plans were reviewed and integrated into the layout so the electrical system supports the project’s unique features.
Why wafer recessed lighting for this home
Wafer can lights are a great fit for remodels in Gastonia homes because they are low-profile, long-lasting, and can be placed where traditional housings won’t fit. By choosing wafers, we delivered even, modern illumination without major ceiling modifications—ideal for finished spaces and tight joist bays.
Code compliance and homeowner benefits
- Safety and reliability: New wiring eliminates hazards associated with aging conductors and connections.
- Up-to-date kitchen outlets: Properly placed and protected outlets support everyday cooking and small appliances.
- Capacity where it counts: An upgraded, relocated panel creates a clearer layout and room for future circuits.
- Permits and inspections handled: We coordinated with the local authority having jurisdiction so the project meets Gastonia and North Carolina requirements.
- Cleaner finishes: Fishing new wiring through existing walls minimizes drywall disruption during a rewire of this size.
Our process for kitchen and small appliances
Early in planning, we request specifications for all small appliances. These details help confirm load calculations and placement, and ensure that outlet locations and circuiting align with how the kitchen will be used. For this project, our team verified the plan, incorporated the noted specialty items, and coordinated with MUSE Residential to keep installation efficient and code-compliant.
