Whole-Home Rewiring Completed in Ware Shoals
Touchstone Electric completed a comprehensive whole-home rewiring project for Millie Tatham in Ware Shoals. Reuben Jansen Von Rensburg and Tyler Harris performed the work, replacing older wiring throughout the home and helping prepare the electrical system for dependable day-to-day use.
A whole-home rewire is a detailed process that requires careful coordination at every stage. Power is disconnected while existing devices, outlets, switches, and panel connections are addressed. New wiring is then routed through the home, devices are reconnected, and the system is restored for testing and inspection. This project included permitting and inspections as part of the rewiring scope.
New Subpanel and Service Feeder Installation
As part of this Ware Shoals electrical upgrade, our team installed a midsized indoor subpanel designed for up to 125 amps. The project also included a 100-amp two-pole breaker and approximately 35 feet of four-wire SER cable connecting the main panel to the new subpanel.
A properly installed subpanel can provide organized space for additional circuits and help support a home’s electrical distribution needs. The completed scope included the subpanel permitting requirements, while work such as trenching, conduit for feeders, and detached-building grounding were not part of this installation.
New Circuits for Appliances, Lighting, and Receptacles
The rewiring work included new branch circuits to support common household electrical needs. Touchstone Electric installed standard 15-amp breakers for bathroom lighting and other standard circuits, along with 20-amp GFCI breakers for areas where ground-fault protection is commonly required, such as bathrooms, laundry spaces, garages, exterior receptacles, crawl spaces, basements, and dining areas.
- Sixteen 20-amp standard breakers for small-appliance circuits
- Four 15-amp standard breakers for lighting and branch circuits
- Two 20-amp GFCI breakers for applicable protected locations
- New 12/2 NM-B cable for 20-amp appliance and receptacle circuits
- New 10/3 NM-B cable for 30-amp, 240-volt appliance circuits
- Approximately 20 feet of 3/4-inch PVC conduit with applicable fittings and connections
The project also included a simple installation of a customer-supplied ceiling fixture or light on an existing box and circuit.
Grounding and Hardwired Smoke Detector Improvements
For added electrical-system protection, the scope included a grounding upgrade. Our electricians installed a new ground rod and replaced the grounding electrode conductor running continuously to the main service panel, within the applicable installation distance for this work.
Touchstone Electric also installed a new hardwired smoke detector network. Hardwired smoke detectors are an important part of a home’s safety infrastructure, and this installation was integrated into the broader rewiring project.
AFCI Considerations During Electrical Inspections
Electrical code requirements can vary based on the inspection process and the condition of an existing home. As NEC 2020 requirements are implemented, an inspector may require AFCI breaker upgrades for certain circuits. AFCI breakers can sometimes reveal pre-existing wiring conditions, including shared neutrals, that may cause immediate tripping.
If a pre-existing condition is found, additional diagnostic work may be needed to identify and correct the issue. This can involve tracing affected circuits and evaluating connected lighting or devices before the circuit can operate as intended.
