Whole-Home Rewiring & Grounding Upgrade in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, operating out of our Matthews branch, completed a comprehensive whole-home rewiring and grounding upgrade for homeowner Charlotte Ranson on February 10, 2025. Led by technician Ben Lively, this project replaced ungrounded branch circuits, updated devices, and ensured the home’s critical systems were safely and reliably powered.

What We Found

During our initial assessment, we identified an interior sub panel feeding six ungrounded circuits. While the kitchen and both bathrooms already had grounded outlets and the master bedroom had two grounded outlets, large portions of the home remained ungrounded and in need of a modern upgrade.

Scope of Work

Our licensed team performed a methodical, code-focused whole-home rewiring that included permits and inspections. The process covered:

Disconnecting power to the home and safely isolating all affected circuits
Disconnecting devices, outlets, and switches and removing ungrounded wiring from the panel
Fishing new grounded wiring through walls and ceilings to serve all previously ungrounded areas
Supplying and installing new outlets and switches throughout those upgraded areas
Rewiring the furnace and the whole-house attic fan to grounded circuits
Rehanging and reconnecting fixtures removed during the work
Refeding portions of new junction boxes with grounded wire for consistent grounding continuity
Restoring power, testing every device, and conducting a final safety inspection

By replacing ungrounded wiring and bringing device terminations up to current standards, the home now supports modern, three-prong grounded outlets where upgrades were performed.

This project included all required permits and inspections. We coordinated the process from start to finish to help ensure the new wiring and device installations align with applicable electrical safety standards in Charlotte, NC.
