Project Overview: 200A Panel Upgrade and Surge Protection in Wake Forest North

Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh team completed a comprehensive electrical service upgrade for homeowner Diana Little in Wake Forest North. On June 9, 2026, our licensed electricians replaced two aging 200-amp panels with modern copper-bus panels, renewed the feeder wiring in the riser, installed a whole-home surge protector with robust coverage, and updated breakers to improve safety and reliability throughout the home.

This project was permitted and inspected, and it’s covered by our lifetime craftsmanship warranty for lasting peace of mind. We’re proud to share that Diana praised our team in a customer review following completion.

What We Installed

  • Two 200A indoor copper-bus panels: Removed the old equipment and installed new panels, grounded and bonded to code, reconnected the service-entrance conductors, and neatly labeled all circuits.
  • Feeder wiring through the riser: Replaced the riser feeder conductors to ensure safe, dependable service from the utility connection to the panels.
  • Whole-home surge protection: Installed a surge protective device rated with $100,000 coverage and a 10-year manufacturer warranty (per manufacturer terms) to guard appliances and electronics against damaging voltage spikes.
  • Breaker upgrades and replacements:
    • 1 × 60A standard breaker
    • 3 × 50A standard breakers
    • 1 × 30A double-pole standard breaker
    • 1 × 20A double-pole GFCI breaker
    • 11 × 20A standard breakers
    • 3 × 15A GFCI breakers
    • 7 × 15A standard breakers

The new copper-bus panels include a 50-year transferable manufacturer warranty, providing long-term durability and value.

Safety, Code, and Inspection

Our electricians brought the system up to current electrical code, with proper grounding, bonding, and clear circuit labeling for future maintenance. As inspectors in the area continue implementing NEC 2020 requirements, some homes may need additional AFCI upgrades on certain circuits. Our team advises customers on these requirements and performs any necessary updates to achieve compliance.

All work for this Wake Forest North project was permitted and scheduled for inspection through the appropriate channels, ensuring a safe, approved installation.

Why This Upgrade Matters

  • Reliability: Modern copper-bus panels and fresh feeder conductors reduce nuisance trips and overheating risks commonly found in older equipment.
  • Protection: Whole-home surge protection helps safeguard HVAC systems, appliances, and sensitive electronics from grid fluctuations and lightning-related surges.
  • Capacity for modern living: New breakers and clean distribution support kitchen remodels, EV charging, HVAC updates, and other high-demand loads.
  • Clarity and future service: Organized panels with clearly labeled circuits make troubleshooting faster and less disruptive.
