Project overview
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team installed a 60A hardwired Tesla Wall Connector for homeowner Jermaine Parker in Charlotte, NC. Completed on November 22, 2024, this Level 2 charger runs on a dedicated 60-amp circuit originating at the main panel and terminates cleanly on the front wall of the garage for convenient daily charging.
To support the EV charging load and improve overall home resilience, we also reworked the main service equipment and added a safe, code-compliant manual generator interlock and inlet. This turnkey solution gives the homeowner fast, reliable charging and dependable backup-power readiness.
Scope of work performed
- 60A Tesla Wall Connector installation (Level 2): We installed a dedicated 60-amp breaker and routed new feeder from the main panel to the garage front wall location. The charger was hardwired, tested, and commissioned for safe, efficient home charging.
- Main panel modernization and reconfiguration: Our electricians replaced and reconfigured the outdoor main panel to current code, organized circuit locations, updated labeling, and balanced loads. The new layout provides proper space for the EV breaker and future-ready organization.
- Generator interlock and inlet (manual transfer solution): We installed a listed interlock kit on the panel face to prevent backfeed, clearly labeled the panel with outage instructions, and added a generator inlet with approximately 15 ft of feeder. A 15 ft whip was provided for quick connection when the portable generator is needed.
- Professional materials and routing: The run utilized appropriately sized conductors and fittings (including EMT conduit where required and careful wire fishing through finished areas) to keep the installation neat, durable, and compliant.
- Safety and code compliance: Grounding/bonding was verified, breakers were selected for the application (including the 60A for EV charging), and the work was completed to current NEC and local requirements. We handled permitting and inspection associated with the panel replacement.
