Project Overview
Touchstone Electric’s Matthews branch successfully supported a new construction project in Indian Trail, NC with a temporary power pole installation and 400A service planning. Led by technician Mark Viktorovich, this work was completed on April 29, 2025, as part of our Panels & Service Upgrades and Meter Base & Service Replacement services through our Charlotte business unit.
This was a new construction electrical bid based on builder-provided plans (uploaded 4/9/2025). The price was presented as an estimate due to the not-yet-defined proximity between the future 400 amp meter and the main panels. Any adjustments to those plans will be handled via a change order.
Scope of Work Delivered
- Obtained the utility work order and coordinated with the power company for an overhead temporary service.
- Pulled the required permit with the county and scheduled inspection.
- Installed an extra-tall temporary power pole with a meter/panel combo, including a dedicated grounding system with ground rod.
- Furnished and installed a weatherhead, riser, and cable to the weatherhead with a properly formed drop loop.
- Maintained clearances of approximately 12 ft above grade and 20 ft over roads, as applicable for overhead service.
- Provided one 20 amp receptacle on the post for temporary construction power needs.
- Coordinated inspections for safe activation of temporary power.
This turnkey approach ensures trades on site have reliable, code-compliant power while the project moves forward toward permanent service.
Permitting, Utility Coordination, and Safety
Our team handled the complete process—from utility work order and county permitting to final inspection—so the builder could keep the schedule on track. The temporary set is grounded, properly bonded, and installed to meet applicable codes for overhead service in Indian Trail. We pay close attention to weatherhead height, conductor support, and drop-loop formation to help ensure a smooth utility connection.
400A Service Planning
As part of this project, we assisted with 400 amp service planning for the future permanent installation. If the power company requires a load calculation for approval, Touchstone Electric will furnish the calculation. Because the exact location of the 400A meter relative to the main panels is not yet defined, final installation details and pricing may vary based on conductor length, routing, and equipment layout.
Any adjustments to the submitted plans will be addressed through a formal change order so all stakeholders remain aligned on scope and cost.
Exclusions and Clarifications
- Pool work: Discussed but not yet defined; omitted from this bid.
- Garage upgrades: Not included until a full equipment schedule is provided. The garage will be wired to meet code minimum requirements only as part of this scope.
- Plan changes: Any deviations from the current plans will result in a change order.
