Temporary Power Pole & Overhead Service in Laurel Park, NC
Touchstone Electric recently completed a temporary power pole installation for Ember House Holdings LLC in Laurel Park, NC. Performed by our technician Jose Rodriguez and supported by our Hendersonville branch (Charlotte business unit), this project provided a safe, code-compliant temporary power solution to support ongoing site needs. Completed on June 2, 2025, the work was delivered under our Panels & Service Upgrades and Meter Base & Service Replacement expertise.
Scope of Work Completed
Our team delivered a full turnkey setup for an overhead temporary service, coordinating with both the utility and the county to streamline the process from start to inspection.
- Coordinated with the power company to attain the required work order for temporary service.
- Pulled the necessary permit with the county to authorize the installation.
- Installed an extra-tall temporary power pole with a meter/panel combination for safe and organized distribution.
- Installed a weatherhead and riser, and ran service cable to the weatherhead with a properly formed drop loop.
- Set overhead clearances to meet code: approximately 12 ft above grade for pedestrian areas and 20 ft over roadways where applicable.
- Drove a ground rod and completed grounding to ensure proper fault protection.
- Provided one 20 amp grounded receptacle located on the post for general use on site.
- Coordinated the inspection with the authority having jurisdiction as part of the temporary service process.
This approach ensures the temporary setup is organized, serviceable, and ready for utility coordination as the project progresses.
Why a Temporary Power Pole?
Temporary power poles are a reliable way to bring electricity to a jobsite before permanent service is installed or energized. They support tools, lighting, and essential equipment while keeping wiring elevated and protected. By using a meter/panel combo with a grounded receptacle, contractors and property managers get a stable, clearly labeled connection point that aligns with local permitting and utility requirements.
Code-Compliant Overhead Service
Overhead temporary service must be installed with correct clearances, drip loops, and weatherhead placement to protect conductors and minimize exposure to the elements. Our Hendersonville team followed local and national electrical guidelines, including:
- Proper weatherhead and riser installation to shed moisture and protect terminations.
- Correct drop loop formation to direct water away from entry points.
- Maintained safe overhead clearances for pedestrian and vehicular areas.
- Effective grounding with a driven rod and bonding to the panel enclosure.
The result is a safe, orderly setup that’s straightforward for utilities and inspectors to evaluate and connect when authorized.
