Temporary Power Pole & Meter Base Installation in Matthews, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a temporary power setup for a project in Matthews, NC, led by technician Danny Bishop and completed on September 25, 2025. This service centered on a safe, code-compliant temporary power pole with a meter/panel combo, along with a new 30 amp office circuit and a dedicated well circuit. The project also included full permitting and inspection coordination to streamline utility activation.
Project Highlights
- Temporary Power Pole (Overhead Service): Installed a meter/panel combo on a temporary pole with grounding and hardware appropriate for overhead service. The scope included a weatherhead, riser, service cable, and drop loop, set to typical clearance requirements for safety (12 ft above grade and 20 ft over roadways). The setup included a single 20A receptacle located on the post for immediate on-site power needs.
- Meter Base & Service Work: Properly mounted and bonded the meter/panel combo to serve as the central point for the temporary service, aligning with our Panels & Service Upgrades and Meter Base & Service Replacement expertise.
- 30A Office Circuit: Installed a 30 amp double-pole breaker and ran a dedicated feeder using UF #10/2 cable, direct-buried at a minimum 24-inch depth as applicable. Integrated approximately 20 feet of 3/4" PVC conduit for transitions and protection with fittings, connectors, and LBs where required.
- Dedicated Well Circuit: Provided a separate run to supply well equipment, with a labor credit applied for a portion of the well wire run per project scope.
- Permits & Inspections: Coordinated the work order with the power company, pulled the county electrical permit, and scheduled the required inspections to keep the project moving without delays.

Temporary power needs to be rugged, reliable, and up to code. Our team ensured the new overhead service in Matthews met local and national electrical standards, including proper grounding, weatherhead and riser installation, and adherence to listed clearance guidelines for the drop loop. Using UF cable and PVC conduit in the right places protects the installation from moisture, physical damage, and premature wear—critical for construction sites, well equipment, and temporary office setups.
