Dedicated Sump Pump Circuits and GFCI Outlet Installation in Concord, NC

On September 3, 2026, Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a targeted electrical upgrade for I&R Waterproofing in Concord, NC. Our technicians, Alex Bishop and Mark Alaev, installed dedicated 20-amp circuits in protective conduit from the main panel to the crawl space to power a primary sump pump and its battery backup system. We also added two GFCI outlets and utilized a tandem breaker to optimize panel space. An electrical permit was filed for this project.

Scope of Work Completed

  • 90 ft of 1/2" PVC conduit: Clean, secure routing from the panel to the crawl space with the appropriate connectors, straps, and LBs for protection and serviceability.
  • 150 ft of #12 THHN conductors: Properly sized wiring for two 20-amp circuits, run in conduit for durability and compliance.
  • 1 × 20-amp tandem breaker: Provided two separate dedicated circuits for the sump pump and its battery backup while conserving space in the existing panel (used where panel specifications allow).
  • 2 × GFCI receptacles: GFCI protection with covers installed where required, enhancing safety in damp and unfinished areas.
  • Electrical assistant on site: Ensured an efficient, well-coordinated installation.
  • Electrical permit included: Permit filed with the county for code-compliant work and inspection.

Why These Upgrades Matter

  • Reliability during heavy rain: Dedicated circuits reduce nuisance trips and help keep pumps running when they are needed most.
  • Safety with GFCI protection: GFCI outlets help protect against shock in crawl spaces and other damp or unfinished areas.
  • Neat, serviceable installation: Conduit protects wiring and keeps pathways organized for future maintenance.
  • Correct wire sizing: #12 AWG conductors on 20-amp circuits help support the starting current of pump motors.
  • Efficient panel use: A tandem breaker adds capacity for two circuits without a full panel upgrade, when permitted by the panel manufacturer.

Permit and Compliance Information

This project included filing an electrical permit with the county. Please note that jurisdictions may require additional permits for certain projects. The permit included here covers only the electrical scope. If a Historic Preservation permit, Environmental/Septic permit, Zoning application, separate Subcontractor permit, Builder’s permit, or any other non-electrical permit is required, it is not included. If additional permits are needed, we will advise you on what to handle directly and can provide pricing to assist with processing and filing those non-electrical permits if requested.
