Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a code-compliant subpanel installation and breaker replacement for a residential customer in Charlotte, NC. On June 27, 2025, our licensed technician Will Cruz upgraded the home’s electrical distribution by installing a midsized indoor subpanel and swapping several aging breakers to improve safety, capacity, and reliability.

What we installed and replaced
To deliver dependable capacity for present and future loads, we installed a midsized 12/24 indoor subpanel (up to 125A). Permitting was included as part of this scope. During the visit, the feeder wiring was not replaced, and our team addressed breaker issues to restore dependable protection and clear labeling.

- Breaker replacement:
- 6 × 20A standard breakers (commonly used on general and small appliance circuits)
- 2 × 15A standard breakers (often used for lighting and standard branch circuits)
- 2 × 50A standard breakers (typical for larger loads such as ranges, furnaces, or EV charging equipment)
- 1 × 30A double-pole breaker (typical for dryers, water heaters, or A/C condensers)
- 1 × 20A tandem breaker (for select panel spaces and approved applications)
- Repaired issue: Replaced a faulty breaker in the back of the panel to eliminate nuisance tripping and improve reliability.
- Savings: A manager’s discount was applied to the project.
Note: Conduit, new feeder/trenching, and additional grounding for detached structures were not included in this scope.

As jurisdictions adopt the NEC 2020 code cycle, inspectors may require upgrades such as AFCI protection on certain branch circuits. Because AFCI devices are designed to detect dangerous arcing, they can reveal preexisting wiring issues (for example, shared neutrals). If a wiring condition causes immediate tripping, additional diagnostic time may be needed to locate and correct the issue.
