Why this work was needed
After a dryer-related fire, the existing electrical equipment and circuit required immediate assessment and upgrades. Dryer circuits draw significant current and must be properly sized, protected, and terminated. Our team focused on restoring safe operation, improving protection at the panel, and bringing the affected portions of the system into alignment with current code requirements.
What we installed and replaced
- 125 amp main-lug subpanel to support new and existing branch circuits.
- Breakers installed/replaced:
- 1 × 100A (2-pole)
- 1 × 90A standard
- 1 × 30A
- 8 × 20A standard
- 7 × 15A standard
- New dryer circuit wiring: approximately 20 ft of 10/3 cable dedicated to the dryer.
- Feeder upgrade: about 6 ft of SER 2-2-2-4 cable to supply an additional subpanel.
- Conduit and fittings: 1-1/2 inch liquid-tight flexible conduit with appropriate connectors and support hardware.
- Permitting and inspection coordination for a compliant installation.
All work centered on restoring safe service, eliminating compromised components, and ensuring proper overcurrent protection for the dryer and other household loads.
Safety, code, and inspection readiness
Our Panels & Service Upgrades team follows current NEC and local requirements, including proper subpanel grounding and isolation practices, correctly sized conductors, and appropriate breaker protection. As regional inspectors continue implementing NEC 2020, they may require upgrading certain circuits to AFCI protection. In some homes, installing AFCI devices can reveal preexisting issues such as shared neutrals, which may cause immediate tripping and require diagnostic time to resolve. We prepare homeowners for these scenarios so inspections proceed smoothly.
Benefits of this upgrade for the home
- Improved safety: New subpanel and breakers reduce risk tied to heat and overload events on critical circuits.
- Reliable dryer performance: A dedicated 10/3 run delivers the correct conductor size and protection for the appliance.
- Capacity and organization: Consolidating circuits in a properly sized subpanel supports present and future household needs.
- Inspection-ready workmanship: Permitted, professional installation for peace of mind and easier resale.
