Subpanel Installation and Breaker Upgrades in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch (serving the area from our Matthews location) recently completed a clean, code-focused subpanel installation and breaker upgrade for homeowner Patrick Ware in Charlotte, NC. On January 9, 2025, our technician Grady Houston installed a compact indoor subpanel, added new 20A breakers, and connected the necessary junction circuits to ensure safe, reliable operation.

This project falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades expertise, with a focus on Subpanel Installation for expanding circuit capacity and improving distribution in homes.

What We Installed

  • Small indoor subpanel (4/8 spaces, up to 125A): A versatile solution well-suited for garages, workshops, spas, and similar additions that need organized, expandable circuit capacity.
  • Two 20A standard breakers: We relocated circuits onto their own dedicated 20-amp breakers to improve protection and circuit separation.
  • Junction circuit connections: We installed and tied in the necessary junctions so the new subpanel functions as intended with clear labeling and tidy routing.

By dedicating circuits and organizing distribution in a subpanel, homeowners can reduce nuisance trips, simplify future adds or changes, and keep the main panel from becoming overcrowded.

Safety, Code, and Workmanship

Our licensed residential electricians follow the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local Charlotte-area amendments. On every subpanel project, we:

  • Mount and secure the panel to manufacturer specifications.
  • Isolate neutrals from grounds within the subpanel, with proper bonding only where required.
  • Use appropriately sized conductors and terminations, torqued to specification.
  • Provide organized wire management and clear circuit labeling for easier future service.

The result is a neat installation that helps protect your home, supports present loads, and leaves room for future needs.

Why Charlotte Homeowners Choose a Subpanel

  • More capacity: Add circuits for garages, workshops, spas, or new appliances without overloading the main panel.
  • Cleaner layout: Keep related circuits together for easier maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Future-ready: Simplify updates like EV chargers, hobby equipment, or outdoor power.
  • Improved safety: Proper circuit separation and labeling support safer operation and service.
