Project overview
Touchstone Electric completed phase one of a specialty sauna pre-wire in Mooresville, NC, serviced by technician Christian Cedillos on July 20, 2024. Working out of our Matthews/Charlotte branch, our team prepared a dedicated power supply for a future sauna installation, ensuring safe, code-compliant capacity from day one.
This service falls under our Specialty and Pool & Hot Tub Electrical expertise, tailored for homeowners adding saunas, spas, or other high-demand equipment that require dedicated circuits and careful coordination with builders.
Scope of work completed
- Ran 27 feet of 10/2 NM-B Romex from the electrical panel to the planned sauna location for a dedicated 240V feed.
- Installed a double-pole 30A breaker to provide properly sized overcurrent protection for the sauna circuit.
- Pre-wired a contractor box at the sauna area to support the build-out and allow a clean, efficient final hookup once the unit is set.
- Organized and labeled the circuit to support future service and inspection needs.
With the pre-wiring complete, our team will return after the sauna unit is installed to make the final connections and perform function checks.
Why a dedicated 30A circuit matters for saunas
Electric saunas draw significant, sustained power. A dedicated 30-amp, 240-volt circuit helps prevent nuisance tripping, protects equipment, and supports consistent heating performance. Using the correct wire size—10/2 NM-B for this application—pairs conductor capacity with breaker sizing to deliver safe, reliable power.
By installing a double-pole 30A breaker and running an appropriately sized cable directly to the sauna location, we minimize voltage drop on the 27-foot run and keep the load off general-purpose circuits, aligning with best practices and code requirements for specialty equipment.
Benefits for the homeowner and builder
- Code-ready power: The circuit is sized and dedicated for the sauna manufacturer’s specifications and local electrical codes.
- Smoother install timeline: Pre-wiring the contractor box lets the builder close walls and finish surfaces without delaying electrical work.
- Clean final hookup: When the sauna arrives, connections are quick, tidy, and minimally disruptive.
- Future serviceability: A labeled breaker and accessible junction point simplify maintenance and upgrades.
