Professional Pool Electrical and 100A Subpanel Installation in Rock Hill, SC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a specialty pool and subpanel project in Rock Hill, SC for Hatteras Pools on September 10, 2024. Led by technician Chris Rogers, our Matthews-based branch delivered a clean, code-focused installation that powers pool equipment safely and leaves room for future expansion.
This project blended pool and hot tub electrical expertise with a dedicated power upgrade: a new outdoor subpanel, GFCI protection for the pump, and weather-resistant outlets with in-use bubble covers. The result is reliable, serviceable power distribution that stands up to outdoor conditions.
Scope of Work Completed
- Installed a new outdoor subpanel rated for up to 100 amps to serve pool-area loads and future needs.
- Ran a 2-2-2-4 SER feeder to the subpanel and completed all terminations and labeling.
- Added a 20A double-pole GFCI breaker dedicated to the pool pump for enhanced protection near water.
- Installed a customer-supplied timer for the pool pump to improve scheduling and efficiency.
- Installed a customer-supplied transformer for low-voltage pool lighting per manufacturer specifications.
- Provided weather-resistant (WR) receptacles with in-use bubble covers: one GFCI outlet plus two standard outlets for outdoor convenience.
- Completed additional circuit work, including a 30A double-pole breaker and a dedicated connection for a customer-supplied dryer wire and breaker.
- Supplied and installed conductors as needed, including 8/3 NM-B and #8 THHN, with tidy routing and secure terminations.
- Coordinated with the customer for trenching and customer-supplied conduit on buried runs, then pulled conductors and made final connections.
Pool-Ready Power, Protection, and Control
Pools demand the right balance of capacity and safety. The new 100A subpanel places distribution close to the equipment pad, simplifying service and allowing room for additional circuits. The dedicated GFCI protection for the pump adds a critical safety layer, while the WR outlets with bubble covers provide code-conscious convenience for outdoor tools, maintenance, and seasonal accessories.
The installed pump timer helps regulate run times to support water quality and energy savings, and the low-voltage transformer supports pool lighting as specified. All components were installed with attention to clear labeling, neat wire management, and serviceability.
Built to Code and Ready for the Seasons
Our team follows the National Electrical Code and local requirements for pool and hot tub installations, with proper separation of neutrals and grounds in subpanels, appropriate GFCI protection, outdoor-rated devices, and professional terminations. We coordinated closely with Hatteras Pools on trenching and conduit, then completed the feeder and branch-circuit hookups to deliver a durable, weather-ready system.
From material selection to final testing, Touchstone Electric focused on safe operation, clean workmanship, and straightforward maintenance for the life of the pool system.
