200 Amp Electrical Panel Upgrade in Rock Hill, SC

Scope of Work and Installed Equipment
- New 200A Indoor Main Panel (Aluminum): We replaced the existing panel, installed the new main lug, labeled all circuits, and properly grounded and bonded the enclosure. The service entrance conductors and existing branch circuits were reconnected to bring the system up to current electrical code.
- Permits and Inspection: All required permitting and a final inspection were coordinated as part of this upgrade, ensuring the installation meets local and national code requirements.
- Whole-Home Surge Protection: A premium surge protector with a $10k warranty was installed to help safeguard sensitive electronics and major appliances from transient voltage spikes.
- Feeder to Subpanel: We installed a SER 4/0, 4‑wire feeder from the main panel to the subpanel for improved capacity and a clean, safe distribution path.
- Breaker Replacement and Additions: To match the upgraded service, we installed:
- Seven 20A standard single‑pole breakers (small appliances and general circuits)
- One 20A standard double‑pole breaker
- Two 30A standard double‑pole breakers (typical for dryer, water heater, A/C, spa, EV charger, etc.)
- One 50A standard breaker (common for range, furnace/air handler, small subpanel, or EV charger)
- Temporary Power Consideration: During the scheduled outage, power was disconnected; our team made a generator available for limited power usage to minimize disruption.
Note: This specific panel upgrade did not include a separate service disconnect or meter upgrade. If needed, these can be quoted as part of a tailored scope.
Code Compliance and Safety Details
Grounding, bonding, and correct labeling were key priorities to enhance safety and ease of maintenance. As local inspectors continue implementing NEC 2020 requirements, certain circuits may require AFCI protection. In some homes, adding AFCI breakers can reveal preexisting conditions—such as shared neutrals—that may cause nuisance tripping. When that occurs, additional diagnostic work may be needed to isolate and correct the issue so the breaker can function properly.
