Project overview: Level 2 EV charger installation in Raleigh, NC
Our Raleigh branch recently completed a residential Level 2 EV charger installation for Duke Energy - Allumia in Raleigh, NC. Performed by technician Gustavo Peralta on June 16, 2026, this project delivered a dedicated, GFCI-protected 240-volt circuit and clean conduit run to power a customer-supplied Level 2 charging station. The installation was permitted and built to meet inspection and rebate requirements, and it qualifies for the Duke Energy EV charger rebate.
Scope of work
- Installed a dedicated 240V circuit with a 50A GFCI breaker for enhanced protection around EV charging equipment.
- Ran approximately 20 ft of #6 THHN conductors to support the load requirements of a Level 2 charger.
- Provided a neat, surface-mounted pathway using 3/4 in. PVC conduit with appropriate fittings and terminations.
- Connected a customer-supplied Level 2 EV charger (receptacle or hardwired, as appropriate for the unit and site conditions).
- Secured the required electrical permit and prepared the installation for inspection.
This configuration offers the performance and safety needed for reliable overnight charging while allowing future flexibility for many Level 2 EVSE models.
Built for safety, performance, and code compliance
EV charging demands a properly sized circuit, high-quality wiring methods, and ground-fault protection. By pairing a 50A GFCI breaker with #6 THHN conductors in durable PVC conduit, we delivered a circuit that is both responsive to modern EV charging needs and aligned with current electrical safety standards. All terminations were torqued to manufacturer specifications, connections were labeled, and the work area was left clean and orderly.
