Recessed Lighting & Electrical Upgrades in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a comprehensive lighting and electrical upgrade for GJK Remodeling, LLC in Charlotte, NC. Led by Ben Lively, this project modernized lighting, improved ventilation, added dedicated power where needed, and refreshed controls to meet today’s code and usability standards. The work was completed on November 12, 2024, with a clean finish and attention to detail homeowners and contractors can rely on.

Project Highlights

Recessed lighting: Installed and supplied fourteen 6-inch can lights for consistent, low-profile illumination.
Bathroom ventilation: Installed two customer-supplied exhaust fans, including removing old housings, cutting drywall, and reworking duct connections.
Dedicated power: Installed and supplied three new dedicated circuits to support the project’s expanded load and functionality.
Switching and controls: Relocated a switch to clear a new pocket door, added a bedside light switch (right side of bed), and installed two 3-way switches to control the fan and can lights. Additional standard switches were installed or replaced as needed.
Receptacles and GFCI protection: Installed a 20-amp GFCI receptacle and additional standard outlets for safe, convenient access to power.
Panel upgrades: Installed new breakers, including GFCI and AFCI protection where appropriate, to enhance safety and compliance.
Structured wiring: Removed obsolete data cables, then installed and supplied two new data ports for a tidy, functional low-voltage layout.
Clean wiring and access: Pulled new NM-B Romex where required, expertly fished wire through finished areas, and added a junction box in the attic to feed outlets in the backsplash. Device boxes were moved within the backsplash for a neat, finished look.
Demolition and cleanup: Removed old wiring and electrical components as required and left the workspace clean.

Code-Compliant Safety Upgrades

Safety and code compliance were central to this Charlotte lighting installation. We provided GFCI protection in appropriate areas and installed AFCI/GFCI combination breakers where required. It’s important to note that AFCI devices can sometimes reveal preexisting wiring issues—such as shared neutrals—that may cause nuisance tripping. When projects uncover these conditions, additional diagnostic work may be necessary to isolate and correct the issue. Our team tests every circuit for proper function and clear labeling before completion.
