Project overview
Touchstone Electric completed a permitted recessed lighting and laundry circuit upgrade for a Charlotte, NC homeowner. On February 14, 2025, our Charlotte team, based out of our Matthews branch, sent technician Chris Rogers to deliver a clean, code-compliant result for customer Beth Davis.
This Lighting & Ceiling Fans project centered on professional lighting installation, a dedicated 30-amp dryer circuit, a washer wiring extension, and updated switch controls—bringing brighter, safer, and more convenient operation to the home.
Scope of work completed
- Installed six 4-inch recessed wafer lights for low-profile, even illumination and a modern look.
- Added a new 30A, 240V dryer circuit on a double-pole breaker, with the correct cable size and a properly installed receptacle connection for the customer-supplied appliance.
- Extended the washer circuit to ensure appropriate capacity and clean routing.
- Relocated a light switch for improved accessibility and everyday convenience.
- Replaced two 3-way switches to restore smooth, reliable lighting control from multiple locations.
- Pulled an electrical permit with the county and completed the work to current code standards, with an electrical apprentice assisting for efficiency.
Materials and components used
- 30-amp standard double-pole breaker for the dedicated dryer circuit.
- NM-B Romex 10/3 cable (50 ft) for the 30A, 240V appliance circuit.
- NM-B Romex 12/2 cable (20 ft) for branch circuit needs as appropriate.
- NM-B Romex 14/2 cable (60 ft) for lighting circuits and general-purpose connections.
- Six recessed can/wafer light fixtures, installed with neat cutouts and secure terminations.
- Two new 3-way switches for dependable multi-location lighting control.
- Electrical permit filed with the county for inspection and compliance. Note: the permit covers electrical scope only; any non-electrical permits required by a jurisdiction would be separate.
Quality, safety, and code compliance
All wiring methods, terminations, and equipment installations were completed to current code and manufacturer specifications. The new dryer circuit is properly sized and protected, lighting controls operate smoothly, and panel labeling was updated so future service is straightforward. Before completion, circuits and fixtures were tested for correct operation and safe performance.
