Completed range circuit and gas stove outlet installation in Raleigh, NC
Our Raleigh branch completed a kitchen power upgrade for Matthew Higgins on May 15, 2025. Lead technician Cody Perry installed a dedicated 240V range circuit and a separate 120V circuit for a gas stove, ensuring safe, future-ready power for either an electric range or a gas appliance with electronic ignition.

Scope of work
- New 240V range circuit – Ran approximately 25 ft of NM‑B 8/3 cable to support a 40‑amp electric range/oven location, providing the correct conductor size for dependable, high-demand cooking equipment.
- New 120V gas stove circuit – Ran approximately 25 ft of NM‑B 12/2 cable for a dedicated 20‑amp kitchen circuit to power a gas stove’s ignition and controls.
- 20A tandem breaker – Installed a 20‑amp tandem breaker for the small‑appliance branch circuit, optimizing panel space while maintaining proper overcurrent protection.
- Appliance connection (customer supplied) – Included connection of the customer’s appliance during the visit, with either a receptacle or hard‑wired setup as appropriate to the equipment.
- Testing and verification – Verified correct voltage, grounding, and operation at each outlet for safe, reliable performance.
Materials and methods
We selected NM‑B 8/3 for the range circuit because its conductor size supports typical 40‑amp, 240V electric ranges and ovens. For the gas stove’s 120V needs, NM‑B 12/2 ensures a robust 20‑amp branch circuit appropriate for kitchen appliances and ignition systems. Conductors were routed cleanly, secured to framing where required, and terminated to manufacturer specifications with appropriate strain relief and grounding practices.
Using a 20‑amp tandem breaker allows safe circuit expansion in panels with limited space while maintaining the overcurrent protection that a kitchen circuit requires. All work was performed to align with current electrical standards for a safe, code‑compliant result.
