Dedicated 20-amp GFCI Outlet for a Jetted Tub in Raleigh, NC
On June 27, 2025, our Raleigh branch completed a Specialty — Pool & Hot Tub Electrical service for Re-Bath Raleigh. Lead technician Jared Mata installed a code-compliant, dedicated 20-amp GFCI circuit and receptacle to power a new jetted tub, providing safe, reliable power in a damp-area environment.
What we installed
- Dedicated 20-amp GFCI protection: A 20-amp GFCI breaker was added in the electrical panel to protect the jetted tub circuit.
- 12/2 NM-B wiring run: Approximately 35 feet of 12/2 NM-B cable was routed from the panel to the tub location, with any required junction box included per the scope.
- Appliance receptacle for the jetted tub: A standard outlet was installed as the dedicated connection point for the customer-supplied unit.
- In-use bubble cover: A protective, in-use cover was fitted to help shield the receptacle in a damp-area setting.
- Space-saving panel work: A 20-amp tandem breaker was installed to create the necessary panel space while keeping the layout neat and serviceable.
- Electrical permit filed: Our Raleigh team handled filing the electrical permit with the county for inspection and compliance.
Safety, code, and performance
Jetted tubs draw significant current and are typically located near water, which is why a dedicated 20-amp circuit with GFCI protection is the safe, code-conscious approach. Using 12-gauge NM-B helps support motor start-up and consistent performance, and the in-use cover provides added protection for the receptacle in a damp location. Updating the panel with a tandem breaker makes efficient use of space while accommodating the new circuit.
Permitting in Raleigh
For this project, Touchstone Electric filed the electrical permit with the county so the work can be inspected and documented. Jurisdictions can have different requirements; this job included the electrical permit only. Any non-electrical permits that might be required by other departments are handled separately when applicable.
