Project overview
Our Raleigh team completed a focused safety and reliability upgrade for homeowner Albert Amato by installing a brand-new 15-amp dedicated circuit with a GFCI breaker and relocating the existing outlet to serve a water softener. This service was performed in Raleigh, NC and completed on June 10, 2025 by technician Brad Williams from our Raleigh branch.
This work falls under our Outlets & Switches and Outlet Installation & Repair services. The goal was to provide code-compliant power near a water source while giving the equipment its own dedicated supply to improve performance and safety.
What we installed
- New 15A dedicated circuit from the main panel using approximately 80 feet of NM-B 14/2 Romex. This run included any necessary junction box for a clean, protected pathway.
- 15-amp GFCI breaker at the main panel to provide ground-fault protection where water is present and to meet modern electrical safety standards.
- Relocated standard receptacle and cover plate, positioned closer to the water softener for proper reach and reduced cord strain.
- Skilled installation support with a wireman/apprentice assisting to expedite routing, mounting, and finish work under Brad’s supervision.
After installation, we performed functional checks to confirm correct wiring, proper grounding, and reliable GFCI protection. The water softener now has safer, dedicated power right where it’s needed.
Why a dedicated 15-amp GFCI circuit matters
- Safety near water: GFCI protection significantly reduces shock risk around equipment such as water softeners, utility sinks, and filtration systems.
- Code compliance: Many utility and damp locations require GFCI protection. This upgrade aligns the circuit with current safety practices for Raleigh-area homes.
- Reliable equipment performance: A dedicated circuit helps prevent nuisance tripping and voltage drops that can occur when multiple devices share one circuit.
- Convenience and accessibility: Relocating the outlet minimizes extension cords and awkward cable runs, improving day-to-day usability and reducing wear on cords and plugs.
How we approached the job
We began by planning a clear route from the main panel to the new outlet location, then installed NM-B 14/2 cable with tidy, secure support. The team set a 15A GFCI breaker in the panel to protect the entire circuit and moved the existing outlet closer to the water softener for a neat, compliant setup. Final testing included verifying polarity, grounding continuity, and proper GFCI trip functionality.
