Touchstone Electric recently completed a professional lighting and wiring upgrade for YMCA of the Triangle in Durham, NC. Led by Cody Perry from our Raleigh branch, the team delivered clean, efficient, and code-conscious results on August 19, 2025. This job blended high-ceiling lighting installation with new EMT conduit, THHN pulls, and MC cable—ideal for a safe, durable setup in a busy community facility.

Scope of Work

High-ceiling fixture install on an existing box and circuit (customer-supplied), using the proper lifts, hardware, and anchoring techniques for a safe mount at over 14 feet.
EMT conduit installation: approximately 60 ft of 1/2" EMT with mounting, connectors, LBs, and transitions as required for a neat, protected pathway.
THHN conductors: roughly 100 ft of #12 THHN (3–4 conductors as needed) pulled through conduit to support 20-amp circuits for lighting and power.
MC cable: about 30 ft of 12/2 MC for commercial-grade runs where metallic cable was the best fit.
Emergency light install to enhance life-safety egress lighting.
Framing and box support materials to properly secure the new assembly and maintain long-term integrity.
Additional labor support for safe handling at height and efficient wire pulling.

Layout and routing: We planned straight, supported EMT paths for clean lines and serviceability, with thoughtful LB placement for easy future pulls.
Secure mounting: Conduit straps and fittings were installed at proper intervals; MC was terminated with listed connectors and anti-short protection.
Conductor pulls and terminations: #12 THHN conductors were pulled with attention to bend radius and labeling, then landed with tight, reliable terminations.
High-ceiling safety: The fixture was assembled and mounted with correct box support, fasteners, and equipment handling for elevated work.
Emergency lighting: The new emergency light was positioned for egress visibility and tested for operation.
Testing and verification: Circuits were checked for continuity and proper function, and components were secured with a tidy finish.
