Pool Panel Install, Bonding & Equipment Wiring in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team completed a specialty pool electrical project for Ivy Creek Pools in Charlotte, NC. Led by technician Chris Rogers, this job included installation of a customer-supplied pool control panel, bonding of all pool equipment, and dedicated wiring for the pump, heater, air blower, and lighting transformer. The project was permitted and inspected to keep everything safe and compliant for long-term use.

Project Overview

We installed a new pool control panel and provided a code-required GFCI receptacle with an in-use bubble cover near the equipment pad. Power to the pool panel was supplied using THHN #6 conductors for a robust feeder, and we protected and routed equipment connections using 3/4-inch liquid-tight flexible conduit and appropriate fittings for a clean, weather-resistant finish.

All work was performed in accordance with NEC requirements and manufacturer specifications. Ivy Creek Pools coordinated light pulls to the junction box, and our team ensured proper terminations and labeling for serviceability.

What We Installed

  • Pool Control Panel: Customer-supplied panel installed; included the required nearby receptacle and a breaker at the main panel. Permit and inspections were included.
  • Feeder Conductors: Approximately 20 ft of THHN #6 wire to supply the panel for high-demand pool equipment.
  • Equipment Hookups (4 total): Dedicated wiring and relay connections set up for:
    • Pool pump
    • Pool heater
    • Air blower
    • Transformer for pool lights
  • Breakers Installed:
    • 1x 60A Double-Pole (GE)
    • 1x 20A GFCI Double-Pole
    • 2x 15A GFCI Double-Pole
    • 1x 20A Single-Pole
    • 1x 15A Single-Pole
  • Bonding & Grounding: Full equipment bonding per NEC 680.26 using #8 bare copper, connected to the pool equipment grounding lugs.
  • GFCI Outlet with Bubble Cover: Weather-resistant, code-compliant receptacle for safe outdoor use.
  • Liquid-Tight Conduit: About 20 ft of 3/4-inch liquid-tight with fittings, connectors, and supports.
  • Apprentice Support: Tasks performed under licensed supervision to maintain quality and efficiency.

Safety and Code Compliance

Pool areas demand precise attention to safety. This installation included GFCI protection where required, proper bonding and grounding to equalize potential around wet locations, and clear breaker sizing to match equipment loads. By following the latest code standards and manufacturer wiring diagrams, we helped ensure reliable operation and enhanced protection against shock hazards.

Clean routing, labeled circuits, and secure terminations make future maintenance straightforward and help keep downtime to a minimum during seasonal openings or service calls.
