Pool Electrical Service in Kannapolis, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, operating from our Matthews branch, completed a specialty pool electrical project in Kannapolis, NC for Hatteras Pools. Led by technician Chris Rogers and completed on April 6, 2026, this service focused on safe, code-compliant power distribution, protection, and bonding for new pool equipment.
Project overview
We provided a full Pool & Hot Tub Electrical setup, including power hookups for a pump with timer and an electric heater, a transformer for pool lights, multiple GFCI-protected breakers, and a weather-resistant GFCI outlet with a bubble cover. All connections were made from the pool control panel to each piece of equipment in alignment with manufacturer diagrams and best practices.
What we installed
- Equipment hookups: Dedicated connections from the pool control panel to the pump with timer and the electric heater, including any required low‑voltage relay integration per manufacturer specifications.
- GFCI breakers for safety:
- 60A GFCI double‑pole breaker for the heater
- 20A GFCI double‑pole breaker for the pump with timer
- 15A GFCI single‑pole breaker for the lighting transformer
- 20A standard single‑pole breaker for a convenience outlet circuit
- Lighting transformer: Properly sized transformer to step down power for low‑voltage pool lighting.
- Bonding and grounding: Established the bonding network per NEC 680.26 with #8 bare copper, tying into equipment grounding lugs to equalize potential around the pool environment.
- Outdoor GFCI receptacle: Installed a GFCI outlet with an in‑use bubble cover for weatherproof protection.
- Skilled team: Work led by Chris Rogers with assistance from an electrical apprentice to ensure an efficient, high‑quality installation.
Safety and code compliance
Pool areas demand robust electrical protection. GFCI protection helps reduce the risk of shock around water, and double‑pole GFCIs provide protection for 240V loads such as heaters and certain pumps. The bonding halo and equipment bonding ensure metal parts share the same electrical potential, while the in‑use bubble cover maintains outlet protection during operation and in wet conditions. These measures align with current code requirements and industry standards for pool and spa systems.
Panel capacity note
During our assessment, we found the main panel and the existing subpanel had no remaining spaces. To support present and future pool equipment circuits, we recommended a panel upgrade or a dedicated subpanel. If you are planning pool or spa additions in Kannapolis, addressing panel capacity early helps avoid delays and ensures every device has a properly sized, dedicated circuit.
