Project overview

On March 21, 2025, Touchstone Electric completed a comprehensive pool electrical upgrade for Signature Luxury Pools in Biltmore Forest, NC. Led by our technician Chris Rogers, this specialty service focused on safe, code-conscious power distribution for multiple pieces of pool equipment, using Siemens GFCI protection, weather‑resistant devices, and correct wire sizing throughout.

Completed by our Hendersonville branch and supported by our Charlotte business unit, this project delivers reliable operation for pumps, heating, and controls while prioritizing electrical safety around water.

Scope of work

We supplied and installed dedicated circuits, protection, and wiring to serve the pool system components. Key elements included:

  • GFCI breaker upgrades (Siemens):
    • 1 × 50A double‑pole GFCI for the pool heat pump
    • 2 × 20A double‑pole GFCI for the pool circulation pumps
    • 2 × 15A double‑pole GFCI (one for the air blower; one for the gas heater)
  • Standard breakers and control circuits:
    • 1 × 20A single‑pole serving a weather‑resistant GFCI receptacle for the lighting transformer
    • 1 × 15A single‑pole dedicated to the PDA/control equipment (no GFCI required per application)
  • New branch wiring to each load:
    • #6 stranded copper for the heat pump circuit
    • #12 stranded copper for two pump circuits and the WR GFCI receptacle
    • #14 stranded copper for the air blower and gas heater circuits
  • Outdoor device and protection: Installed a weather‑resistant GFCI receptacle with an in‑use (bubble) cover for the pool lighting transformer.
  • Bonding and accessories: Performed partial bonding of pool equipment and used 1/2‑inch and 3/4‑inch flexible conduit, straps, and fittings for secure, code‑compliant raceway transitions.

Why this pool electrical upgrade matters

  • Safety around water: GFCI protection reduces the risk of electric shock in wet locations and is a critical safeguard for pumps, heaters, and outdoor receptacles.
  • Correct wire sizing: Using #6, #12, and #14 stranded conductors sized to each load helps maintain proper voltage and performance, especially for high‑demand equipment like heat pumps.
  • Equipment bonding: Bonding metal components helps equalize electrical potential and further enhances safety for anyone using the pool area.
  • Weather resistance: A WR GFCI outlet with a bubble cover provides durable, in‑use protection from rain and splash, extending device life and improving safety.
  • Reliability and serviceability: Clearly dedicated circuits and modern Siemens breakers make future maintenance simpler and help isolate issues quickly if troubleshooting is ever needed.
