Pool Electrical Panel, Equipment & Lighting — Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a specialty Pool & Hot Tub Electrical project for Ivy Creek Pools in Charlotte, NC. Our Matthews-based team delivered a safe, code-compliant installation that brings reliable power and control to a new pool setup. Completed on February 24, 2025 by technician Chris Rogers, this project covered the control panel, equipment hookups, lighting circuit, trenching, and professional mounting.

Project overview

We installed a customer-supplied pool control panel with a code-required receptacle and integrated it into the home’s electrical system using a dedicated 30A double‑pole breaker. From there, we provided power and control to the pool pump and gas heater, and connected a pool light circuit per manufacturer specifications. All exterior runs were protected in PVC conduit, with targeted trenching to proper depth for safety and durability.

Scope of work delivered

  • Pool control panel: Mounted and wired the customer-supplied panel, including a code-required receptacle and a new breaker at the main panel. Electrical permit handling included as part of this installation.
  • Equipment hookups: Connected the pool pump and gas heater from the control panel, integrating low-voltage relays and controls according to the manufacturers’ diagrams for dependable operation.
  • Pool light circuit: Wired the customer-provided fixture, whip, and transformer. Touchstone Electric supplied the THHN ground and pulled it through conduit with the light whip for a secure, code-minded installation.
  • Trenching and conduit: Trenched and backfilled approximately 15 feet at 18–24 inches depth and installed 3/4" PVC conduit with fittings to protect conductors and simplify future service.
  • Panel mounting: Set a double wood post in concrete to provide a sturdy, long-lasting mount for the pool control panel and associated equipment.

Materials and components used

  • 30A double‑pole GE breaker dedicated to the pool system
  • Approx. 50 ft of #8/3 NM‑B (Romex) to address run length and help mitigate voltage drop
  • Approx. 60 ft of #8 stranded THHN conductors for equipment and lighting connections
  • Approx. 50 ft of 3/4" PVC conduit with fittings and terminations
  • Double wood post mount set in concrete for a secure equipment rack

Safety, code, and best practices

Pool electrical work demands attention to detail and adherence to code. Our team followed manufacturer specifications, provided a code-required receptacle at the equipment area, and used properly sized conductors with conduit protection. Prior to any digging, we advise calling 811 to locate underground utilities—an essential step for safe trenching on pool projects.
