Pool electrical panel and equipment hookups in Charlotte, NC

Customer: Ivy Creek Pools

Location: Charlotte, NC (serviced by our Charlotte branch in Matthews)

Technician: Chris Rogers

Completed: April 1, 2026

Touchstone Electric completed a specialty pool and hot tub electrical project in Charlotte, delivering a code-compliant pool control panel, equipment hookups, dedicated GFCI protection, a low-voltage lighting transformer, and three pool light integrations. This turnkey setup ensures safe, reliable operation for the pool pump, heater, and an additional pump—ready for the swim season.

What we installed

  • Pool control panel: Built and installed the customer-supplied control panel and integrated it with the home’s electrical system, including permit and inspections.
  • Feeder conductors: Properly sized #6 feeders, including 6/3 NM cable and #6 THHN/stranded conductors (approximately 50 ft each), to support higher-load pool equipment and the sub-panel.
  • Dedicated breakers:
    • 60A double-pole main feeder breaker
    • 20A GFCI double-pole (equipment)
    • 15A GFCI double-pole (equipment)
    • Additional 20A GFCI double-pole for dedicated pump protection
    • 20A single-pole and 15A single-pole branch circuits as needed
  • Pool equipment hookups: Power and control wiring from the pool panel to each device per manufacturer diagrams, including:
    • Primary pool pump
    • Pool heater
    • Additional pump
  • Lighting transformer and three pool lights: Installed a transformer to step down voltage for pool lighting and integrated three light circuits, with proper grounding and connections at the equipment area.
  • Outdoor GFCI receptacles: Weather-resistant GFCI outlets with in-use bubble covers for safe, code-compliant power access near the equipment pad.
  • Panel board assembly and assistance: Panel board build-out and on-site electrical helper support to complete the scope efficiently.

Code-focused, inspection-ready work

Safety and compliance are central to every Touchstone Electric pool project in Charlotte. This installation includes GFCI protection where required, appropriately sized conductors for motor loads, and weatherproofed receptacles with bubble covers for continuous protection. We coordinated permitting and inspections so the Ivy Creek Pools team and homeowner could move forward with confidence.

The customer supplied the pool control panel’s breaker as part of the project plan, and our team integrated it seamlessly. Low-voltage lighting was handled through a dedicated transformer to meet manufacturer and code requirements, while equipment hookups were completed using the correct relays and terminations for reliable operation.

Results for the pool owner and builder

  • Reliable performance: Clean, labeled circuits and dedicated breakers for the pump, heater, and auxiliary pump reduce nuisance trips and simplify service.
  • Enhanced safety: GFCI-protected equipment and receptacles help guard against ground faults in wet environments.
  • Future-ready capacity: #6 feeders and a well-organized control panel support present loads and future additions.
  • Professional finish: Weatherproof, in-use covers on outdoor outlets protect connections without sacrificing convenience.
