Pool Bonding and Grounding Installation in Holden Beach, NC
On April 10, 2025, our Raleigh branch completed a specialty pool electrical bonding project for Mike in Holden Beach, NC. Lead technician Francisco Martinez installed a continuous bonding system using #8 AWG solid bare copper to create a proper bonding halo around the pool and equipment. The project was permitted with the county and a final inspection was scheduled upon completion.
This service ensures the pool area meets code, reduces shock hazards, and provides a durable, corrosion-resistant bonding network suitable for the coastal environment in Holden Beach.
What We Installed
- Bonding halo: A continuous ring of #8 AWG bare copper encircling the pool in line with NEC 680.26.
- Equipment bonding: Bonded the pool pump, pool ladder, and the pool shell or frame (if applicable), with the bonding conductor routed to the equipment ground lug.
- Corrosion-resistant connections: All terminations made with approved brass or copper lugs and clamps designed for wet and coastal environments.
- Interconnection of metals: Ensured all metal components within 5 feet of the pool are properly interconnected to the bonding network.
How We Completed the Project
- Electrical permit: Pulled the required electrical permit with the county before starting work.
- Trenching and routing: Excavated a perimeter trench at approximately 6 inches deep for about 67 linear feet to place and route the bonding conductor.
- Secure terminations: Installed listed bonding lugs and clamps for long-term reliability and corrosion resistance.
- Testing: Verified continuity of all bonded connections with proper test equipment.
- Inspection: Scheduled the final inspection to confirm compliance with local electrical safety standards.
Note: Before any excavation, calling 811 is recommended to locate underground utilities.
Why Pool Bonding Matters
- Safety: Reduces the risk of electrical shock around the pool and deck.
- Code compliance: Meets local requirements and NEC 680.26 for bonding and grounding of permanently installed pools.
- Longevity: Durable, corrosion-resistant components protect your investment in a coastal climate.
Proper bonding equalizes electrical potential between metal parts, helping create a safer environment for swimmers and anyone near the water.
