Panel Relocation, Subpanel Feed, and Remodel Wiring in Columbus

Touchstone Electric’s Asheville branch completed a comprehensive electrical upgrade for Ember House Holdings LLC in Columbus. Led by Aaron Smith, our licensed technician, this project involved relocating the main electrical panel, installing a 200A subpanel feeder, and delivering full remodel rough-in and trim services to meet current NEC standards and pass local inspections.

Completed on October 31, 2025, the work brought the remodeled space up to code with new circuits, safety devices, and clearly labeled distribution—ensuring a reliable power system ready for everyday use and future expansion.

Scope of Work Completed

  • Main panel relocation with updated layout and clear circuit labeling for easier maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • 200A subpanel feeder installed using 4-wire SER 4/0 to provide balanced, code-compliant capacity for the new and existing loads.
  • Remodel rough-in based on stamped, customer-provided electrical plans and current NEC:
    • Landed and dressed all electrical boxes
    • Supply power for bathroom vent fans (duct work by others)
    • Dedicated 20A GFCI bathroom circuits
    • Wiring for HVAC equipment and controls per plans
    • Outlets, lighting, and switching brought to code where not otherwise specified
    • Electrical permit and inspections coordination
  • Trim-out after rough-in approval:
    • Installation of smoke detectors per code
    • Connection of vent fans (ducting by others)
    • HVAC and major appliance disconnects
    • Hookups for customer-supplied appliances: disposal, dishwasher, range, cooktop, microwave, washer, and dryer
    • Fixture installation per plans (customer-supplied fixtures)

All work was performed with a focus on safety, code compliance, and long-term serviceability for the finished space.

Panel Relocation and Service Upgrades

As part of our Panels & Service Upgrades and Electrical Panel Upgrades services, we repositioned the main panel to optimize accessibility and meet clearance requirements. The new 4-wire 200A SER feeder provides a robust pathway to the subpanel, improving load distribution and leaving room for future circuits.

During panel and breaker updates, inspectors increasingly enforce NEC 2020 provisions. In some homes, upgrading to AFCI protection can reveal preexisting wiring conditions (such as shared neutrals) that require corrective diagnostics. Our team plans for these scenarios to ensure safe, dependable operation without nuisance tripping.

Safety, Code, and Inspections

From permitting through final trim, our electricians followed the current NEC and coordinated all inspections. GFCI in bathrooms, correctly sized conductors, properly located disconnects, and clearly identified circuits all contribute to a safer, code-compliant installation. Smoke detection was installed and verified according to applicable requirements.

We also coordinated any necessary wall access for the relocation and rough-in phases and ensured a clean, professional finish at trim-out.
