Project overview: Panel rejuvenation, bus bar and surge protection in Anderson, SC

On March 19, 2026, Touchstone Electric completed a comprehensive panel rejuvenation with a new bus bar installation and whole-house surge protection for homeowner Rosemary Herbleb in Anderson, SC. The work was performed by technician Chris Rogers and coordinated through our Taylors branch within the Charlotte business unit.

As a local residential electrical contractor specializing in Panels & Service Upgrades and Panel Rejuvenation, our goal was to restore the panel’s integrity, improve safety, and deliver cleaner, more reliable power that helps appliances and electronics last longer.

Scope of work completed

  • Bus bar install and neutral corrections – Supplied and installed a new ground or neutral bar, then corrected double-tapped neutrals by separating conductors so there is only one wire per lug. This promotes proper grounding/neutral separation and reduces the risk of overheating or nuisance tripping.
  • Panel rejuvenation service – Vacuumed and cleaned the interior of the panel; re-tensioned loose connections at lugs and breaker terminals; verified ground and neutral bars are isolated and properly landed; inspected for water intrusion and re-sealed any openings to help prevent arcing and pests; confirmed correct incoming voltage from the power provider; applied antioxidant on conductors as needed; and, with the customer’s consent, tested Arc-Fault (AFCI) and Ground-Fault (GFCI) breakers for proper function.
  • Whole-house surge protection – Installed a surge protective device at the main electrical panel to divert excess voltage to ground and help protect the home’s electrical system and connected equipment from surges related to lightning activity, utility grid fluctuations, or large appliances cycling on and off. Benefits include reduced risk of damage and extended lifespan for sensitive electronics and major appliances.
    • Warranty (as provided): Up to $50,000 of coverage over 10 years for covered household appliances in the unlikely event the protector fails.
    • Important notes: Claims are secondary to the homeowner’s existing insurance policy, and direct lightning strikes are excluded.
    • Covered equipment may include: washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer, HVAC unit located inside the house, dishwasher, garbage disposal, stove, wiring, outlets/switches, electrical system components (breakers, etc.), and other hardwired devices such as built-in microwaves, furnace, air handlers, evaporator coils, hardwired ranges, landscape lighting, and home lighting—when protected with a properly connected Boltshield SPD.
    • Exclusions: Security systems and medical equipment are not included.

Why this matters for Anderson homeowners

In Anderson, SC, the combination of seasonal storms, humidity, and everyday electrical load can take a toll on service panels. A targeted panel rejuvenation addresses loose terminations, contamination, and improper terminations that can create hot spots or unreliable performance. Adding surge protection further hardens the home against transient voltages that silently degrade electronics over time.

  • Improved safety through tightened connections, proper conductor landing, and sealed openings.
  • More stable, “cleaner” power delivery for sensitive electronics and modern appliances.
  • Reduced risk of nuisance trips and premature equipment wear.
  • Added protection from damaging voltage spikes originating inside or outside the home.
  • Peace of mind backed by manufacturer warranty terms as summarized above.

Results and customer experience

Following the rejuvenation and surge protection install, Rosemary’s panel was cleaned, connections were re-tensioned, neutrals were separated correctly, and openings were sealed against moisture and critters. With homeowner consent, AFCI and GFCI devices were function-tested, and incoming voltage was verified.

The homeowner praised our team in their post-service review, noting the professional approach and clear communication throughout the visit.
