Project overview
Our Charlotte branch, dispatched from our Matthews location, completed a clean, code-compliant outlet relocation and lighting control upgrade for homeowner Hamilton Stolpen in Fort Mill, SC. On October 22, 2024, technicians Grady Houston and Steve Goheen relocated two outlets, installed a new dimmer switch, and added a switched leg to power two picture lights—delivering a seamless finish that complements the home’s layout and artwork.
Scope of work
- Relocated two standard receptacles: Provided new covers and positioned the outlets to better serve the room’s furniture and media layout.
- Installed a dimmer switch: Set up a standard dimmer (non-smart) to provide smooth, adjustable lighting ideal for accent and mood lighting.
- Wired two picture lights: Installed owner-supplied fixtures on the existing circuit and added a switched leg so the pair is controlled at the wall.
- New wiring where needed: Pulled approximately 60 feet of 14/2 NM-B Romex for the relocations and lighting control, with junction boxes as required by code.
- Testing and cleanup: Verified correct polarity, grounding, and dimmer operation, then left the work area tidy.

Using 14/2 NM-B on 15-amp lighting and general-purpose circuits ensured compatibility with residential standards. Connections were made in properly mounted boxes with secure terminations, and the dimmer was matched to the lighting load for flicker-free performance.
