Outlet & GFCI Installation + New 20A Circuit in Tega Cay, SC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, operating from our Matthews branch, completed a code-compliant upgrade for Ivy Creek Pools in Tega Cay, SC. On January 8, 2025, our technician Gump Martin installed a dedicated 120V, 20-amp circuit with a new breaker, added multiple receptacles, and improved outdoor safety with in-use weatherproof protection. This project was permitted and inspected to meet local requirements.
What We Installed
- New 20A, 120V circuit with a standard 20-amp breaker, ideal for higher-demand loads and small appliances
- Approximately 90 feet of 12/2 NM-B wiring for the new branch circuit, including any needed junction box
- 3 standard outlets (receptacles) for convenient power access
- 1 GFCI outlet for shock protection in damp or wet locations
- 4 weatherproof in-use “bubble” covers to protect outdoor outlets whether or not a cord is plugged in
- Electrical permit filed with the county to ensure the work aligns with code and inspection requirements
This combination of a dedicated 20A circuit, GFCI protection, and in-use covers boosts both capacity and safety—especially important around outdoor equipment and pool-related areas.
Code Compliance, Permits, and Exclusions
We obtained and filed the electrical permit for this project and completed the work to current code. Please note that the permit included here covers only the electrical scope. Other jurisdiction-specific permits—such as Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, Builders, or separate Subcontractor permits—are not included. If additional non-electrical permits are required, we will advise you on next steps and can provide pricing for assistance with processing and filing if needed.
Protection From the Elements
GFCI protection reduces the risk of electrical shock in areas exposed to moisture, making it essential for outdoor receptacles and spaces near water. The weatherproof bubble covers keep outlets protected in rain and splash conditions, even when in use—an important upgrade for durability, safety, and compliance.
Careful Installation With Minimal Disruption
Routing a new circuit from the electrical panel sometimes requires strategic access. In this Tega Cay project, we advised that drywall may need to be cut in the garage to fish wires into the panel. Touchstone Electric is not responsible for drywall or paint repairs. Our team always works to minimize disruption and keep the job area clean and safe.
