Outdoor Outlet Installation and Front Door Light — Charlotte, NC
Completed on April 24, 2026 by our Charlotte team (Matthews branch), this project delivered safe, code-compliant power and lighting upgrades for DeRhodes Construction (Amen Corner Construction, LLC) in Charlotte, NC. Our licensed electricians, Robert Sloan and Theo Coetsee, installed six weatherproof outdoor outlets, a new front door light with a dedicated switch, and a dedicated outlet to power a landscape fountain. Work was permitted and coordinated for inspection to meet local and National Electrical Code requirements.
Scope of Work
- Six weatherproof exterior outlets: Durable, exterior-rated receptacles with appropriate weatherproof covers for reliable outdoor power.
- Front door light installation: Customer-supplied fixture installed on an existing box/circuit for improved entry illumination and curb appeal.
- New standard wall switch: Installed to control the entry light conveniently from inside.
- Dedicated fountain outlet: A purpose-installed receptacle to power a water feature without overloading other outdoor circuits.
- Code-compliant wiring: New branch-circuit wiring runs using NM-B 12/2 (approx. 50 ft) and NM-B 14/2 (approx. 50 ft), with junction boxes as needed and proper support and terminations.
- 20A AFCI breaker: Added arc-fault protection on the applicable circuit to enhance safety and reduce fire risk from arcing faults.
- Permit and inspection: Touchstone Electric filed the electrical permit and coordinated the inspection process for this installation.
How This Helps the Property
- Convenient outdoor power: With six exterior outlets positioned where needed, running landscaping equipment, seasonal décor, and outdoor entertainment gear is easier and safer than using long extension cords.
- Safer, cleaner setup for the fountain: A dedicated receptacle reduces nuisance trips and keeps power delivery consistent for pumps and lighting associated with water features.
- Enhanced security and visibility: The new front door light brightens the entryway for safer nighttime access and welcoming aesthetics.
- Compliance-first installation: Proper wiring methods, device ratings, and overcurrent/arc-fault protection help ensure long-term reliability and code compliance.
Attention to Code and Craftsmanship
Outdoor receptacles and lighting require the right materials and methods to stand up to weather and meet code. Our team used exterior-appropriate devices and covers, routed and secured wiring per code, and labeled circuits for clarity. The addition of an AFCI breaker provides modern protection against potentially dangerous arcing conditions. By handling the permit and inspection for this Charlotte project, we ensured the work was documented and reviewed in line with local requirements.
Permit note: The electrical permit covers electrical scope only. If a project also requires non-electrical approvals (e.g., historic preservation, zoning, environmental), those items are separate from electrical permitting. When additional permits are necessary, we provide guidance on next steps and can price processing those permits upon request.
