Project Overview: Outdoor Main Electrical Panel Upgrade in Eden, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh branch completed an outdoor main electrical panel upgrade for Daniel Wilson in Eden, NC on May 1, 2025. Led by Brad Williams, our team replaced the existing setup with a modern outdoor main panel that adds capacity, improves safety, and makes room for future circuits, including dedicated crawl space circuits. All work was permitted and performed to current code standards.
This project falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades and Electrical Panel Upgrades services, ensuring the home’s electrical system is safe, organized, and ready for expansion.
What We Installed
- 200-amp outdoor main panel with additional breaker spaces for future circuits, clearly labeled for easy maintenance.
- New breakers sized for present and potential loads:
- 1 × 20A two-pole breaker
- 2 × 30A two-pole breakers
- 1 × 50A two-pole breaker
- 1 × 70A two-pole breaker
- 1 × 100A two-pole breaker (subpanel-ready)
These breaker capacities support common needs such as dryers, water heaters, air condensers, ranges, EV chargers, and small subpanels, as applicable.
- Crawl space circuits added and routed to the new panel for reliable, code-compliant power in hard-to-reach areas.
- Grounding system upgrade:
- New ground rods driven and connected
- #4 bare copper grounding electrode conductor (GEC) installed and bonded
- All terminations secured and verified within the prescribed run distance
- Service conductors: 4/0 THHN installed where needed to complete the service connections and ensure adequate ampacity.
- Crew support: An electrician wireman assisted our lead technician to maintain quality and timeline.
The result is a safer, more spacious panel with clearly organized circuits and reliable grounding—ready for present loads and future additions.
Code Compliance and Safety Notes
We coordinated permitting and followed the applicable NEC and local requirements for Eden, NC. As jurisdictions adopt newer editions of the electrical code, inspectors may require certain branch circuits to be protected with AFCI breakers. In homes with preexisting wiring conditions—such as shared neutrals—an AFCI can trip immediately and may require diagnostic work to isolate and correct the issue. If that situation arises, our team explains findings and options so you can make an informed decision.
