Project overview in Clayton, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh branch completed an outdoor GFCI outlet installation and new dedicated circuits for Oak City Hardscapes in Clayton, NC. On March 26, 2025, lead electrician Jared Mata installed multiple weatherproof receptacles, added new 20-amp circuits, and handled trenching and conduit work to deliver safe, reliable power for an outdoor living area.
This job falls under our Outlets & Switches services and Outlet Installation & Repair category.
Scope of work
- Installed four weatherproof GFCI outlets on the patio with in-use bubble covers for continuous protection.
- Ran a dedicated 20A circuit in conduit, exiting from the crawl space to designated outdoor areas and stubbing up into cabinet spaces as requested.
- Added one additional 20A circuit and one extra protected outlet to support future power needs.
- Completed approximately 75 feet of trenching at 18–24 inches depth to route and protect underground conduit and conductors.
- Project executed by a licensed electrician with support from a wireman/apprentice for an efficient, clean installation.
Materials and installation details
- Conduit: About 95 ft of 1-inch PVC conduit plus 10 ft of 3/4-inch PVC, including fittings and LBs, mounted and sealed for outdoor exposure.
- Wiring: 160 ft of NM-B 12/2 for interior runs, 100 ft of #12 THHN conductors for conduit pulls, and 25 ft of MC 12/2 where metallic cable was preferred.
- Receptacles: Five GFCI outlets total, paired with five in-use bubble covers to keep outlets protected whether in use or not.
- Protection at the panel: Two standard 20-amp breakers for the new dedicated circuits.
We routed conduit from the crawl space to the patio zones, using sweeps and LBs for smooth pulls and secure transitions. Stub-ups were neatly positioned into cabinet spaces, providing discreet access to power where it’s needed without compromising the finished look of the hardscape features.
Safety and code-minded craftsmanship
Outdoor receptacles require added protection from moisture and physical damage. That’s why we used GFCI outlets, installed them in weather-resistant boxes, and fitted each with an in-use bubble cover. Conduit provides mechanical protection for conductors, and trenching at appropriate depth helps keep your power infrastructure safe and dependable over time.
Our Raleigh team follows manufacturer guidelines and local best practices so your outdoor power is reliable for lighting, tools, appliances, and seasonal equipment.
