Monument Sign Power and Lighting in Charlotte, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a turnkey power and lighting upgrade for the Davis Lake Community Association’s entry monument in Charlotte, NC. Led by our technician, Danny Bishop, this project delivered reliable power, clean aesthetics, and code-compliant installation from the building to the monument. Completed on September 17, 2025, the work included permitting, trenching, new conduit, and dedicated circuits to support present and future lighting needs.
Project overview
Our team installed new conduit from the building to the monument sign and pulled new conductors to establish two dedicated 20-amp circuits. Portions of the raceway were run exposed down the exterior of the building in a neat, low-profile manner, then transitioned underground via a trenched path to the monument. All work was completed to current electrical code and coordinated under an approved county electrical permit.
What we installed
- Conduit pathway: Approximately 400 feet of 3/4-inch PVC conduit with connectors and LB fittings to protect and route conductors from the building to the entry monument.
- Dedicated power: Two new 20A circuits for the monument, providing stable capacity for sign lighting and accessories.
- Conductors: Pulled THHN #10 conductors within the conduit to ensure durable, long-run performance.
- Interior transition: NM-B 10/3 cable used for interior segments as appropriate before transitioning to the exterior raceway.
- Outdoor terminations: Weather-rated boxes and fittings for a professional finish and long-term reliability.
- Trenching and restoration: Excavated the route to the monument, installed conduit to code depth, and restored the trench upon completion.
Permits and inspections handled
We filed and managed the county electrical permit for this project, coordinated all required inspections, and ensured compliance with local and national code. Please note that the permit scope includes the electrical permit only. Some jurisdictions may require separate non-electrical permits—such as Historic Preservation, Environmental/Septic, Zoning, separate Subcontractor permits, or Building permits—which are not included. If additional permits are needed, we will inform you and can provide guidance or a quote to process them.
Why this upgrade matters
- Reliable illumination: Consistent power for entry signage improves visibility, branding, and nighttime safety.
- Capacity for growth: Two dedicated 20A circuits allow for added lighting elements or seasonal decor without overloading circuits.
- Professional appearance: Cleanly routed conduit and weather-rated terminations protect the installation while maintaining curb appeal.
- Code-compliant install: Permit-driven work and inspection coordination help safeguard your investment and ensure longevity.
