200A Meter Base & Panel Replacement in Winston-Salem

Touchstone Electric upgraded the service for homeowner Hope Goolsby in Winston-Salem with a complete 200-amp meter/panel combo replacement. This project modernized the home’s electrical service, improved safety, and created room for future electrical needs, from new appliances to comfort systems and technology.

Our Charlotte branch team handled the entire process end-to-end, ensuring a smooth, code-compliant upgrade with minimal downtime.

Scope of Work

  • Installed a new 200A meter/panel combination to replace the existing service equipment.
  • Coordinated with the utility to schedule the temporary power drop and restore service after work was completed.
  • Pulled the required electrical permit and arranged inspections for full code compliance.
  • Ran new feeder wire and protective PVC conduit to support the upgraded service.
  • Replaced and added breakers as needed and labeled the new panel for clarity and safety.
  • Upgraded the grounding system with new ground rods and grounding electrode conductors for improved fault protection and bonding.
  • Installed whole-home surge protection at the main panel to help safeguard sensitive electronics and appliances.
  • Added a pull-handle equipment disconnect (≤60A) to provide a safe, code-required means of isolation for maintenance.
  • Completed exterior service work including conduit to the weatherhead and service entrance cable to the drip loop, as applicable.

Why a 200A Upgrade Makes Sense

  • Safety and reliability: New service equipment, breakers, and grounding reduce nuisance trips and improve fault clearing.
  • Capacity for today’s loads: A 200A panel supports modern appliances, HVAC, EV charging readiness, and future circuits.
  • Surge protection: Whole-home protection helps defend your home’s systems from lightning and utility-related voltage spikes.
  • Code compliance: Professionally permitted and inspected work brings the service up to current electrical standards.
