Level 2 EV Charger Installation in Matthews, NC
Touchstone Electric recently completed a Level 2 EV charger installation for Michael Gilbert in Matthews, NC. Completed on February 23, 2026, this project was performed by our Charlotte branch technician, Christian Cedillos, and focused on delivering a safe, code-compliant charging solution with rebate savings through Duke Energy.
The homeowner supplied the EV charger, and our team provided the electrical infrastructure, permitting, and professional installation to support reliable Level 2 charging at home.
What We Installed
- 60A breaker dedicated for the Level 2 EV charger circuit.
- Approximately 17 feet of #6 SEU (3-wire) cable to support the 60-amp load and minimize voltage drop.
- Professional connection of the customer-supplied EV charger in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Load and safety checks to verify proper operation and adherence to current electrical code requirements.
- County permitting handled by Touchstone Electric for a compliant installation process.
This Level 2 setup provides significantly faster charging than a standard outlet and is right-sized for many modern EVs, helping the homeowner charge safely and efficiently at home.
Permitting and Code Compliance
Our team filed the electrical permit with the county and completed the work to meet the National Electrical Code and local requirements. The permit included in this project covered the electrical scope of work. If a jurisdiction requires additional non-electrical permits (such as zoning, historic, or environmental permits), those are separate. When those situations arise, we advise homeowners on next steps and can assist with processing as needed.
Duke Energy Rebate: Labor and Materials Covered
A key win for this Matthews EV charger installation was the Duke Energy EV Charger Rebate, which offset eligible labor and materials for the electrical portion of the project. The result: minimal out-of-pocket expense for the homeowner beyond the permit fee.
- Rebate-covered labor and materials: $774.84
- Materials included in that amount: $309.94
- Labor included in that amount: $464.90
- Permit (not covered by rebate): $65.00 paid by homeowner
By leveraging available incentives, the homeowner gained a professionally installed Level 2 charging solution with most electrical costs covered through the utility program.
